I'm hoping that this is the right place for this but I'm now on my second livebox (the first packed up after a few months) but I can't get a wireless connection even using the tips on here. I'm now totally sick of Orange, and if I had my way I'd cancel, but as the only alternative seems to be BT's option 3 which I've seen has had terrible reviews and is a bit more expensive I need to try one more thing:
I only want wireless connections as my main pc is upstairs and the main BT socket is downstairs and was wondering, can I go and buy a wireless ADSL router and simply replace my livebox? If I can, can someone give me a spec to look out for please?
If I can't then I'll cancel Orange ang risk BT as at the moment I'm screwed without internet.

You do realise what the BT home hub is don't you? It's a livebox in a different shell.

Yeah, as long as it has a built in ADSL modem then it should work fine, you may need some extra settings to set it up, all found on their help pages under "orange settings".
All you need is an ADSL router, wireless 802.11g though you can get pre-n stuff now too but you'd need to get adapters as well to use that fully really. Practically any router that says ADSL and wireless should work as almost all have the same basic specs.
Thanks for the info, Yeah, I knew the Home hub was the same as the Livebox, and that's the biggest reason why I have severe reservations about going down that road.
The worst thing with Orange seems to be the lack of customer support, but the fact that there are known issues with the livebox as seen here and Orange seem blissfully unaware of them is awful.
I've even tried bringing my desktop downstairs and making a wired connection (which works, but my desktop HAS to be wireless!), but when I disable the ethernet connection and enable the wireless connection, I can only connect wirelessly occasionally and only when the livebox is set to "No Security", if I select WEP or WAP security (on their own - not combined) I can't connect at all, then I have to enable my network card and wait an age to connect through the ethernet to update the settings again
When I first got the Livebox, I managed to get online with my Belkin USB adapter after about 20mins, but nothing I do will get me online with this one - I've even bought a wireless card for the desktop in case it was that that was causing problems. I've tried using the PCI card software, and tried using windows to install it, I've tried using the Livebox CD and not using the CD I've tried using Windows to establish a connection and nothing works!! I've even deleted the nvidia firewall that came with my system, and turning off the windows firewall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is a nightmare, as I'm desperate to get out of my existing job, and currently cannot send out my CV etc. etc. and I've been in this situation for over 2 weeks!!
I also received a livebox from Orange and could not make it work. What a waste of time!!
I very quickly reverted back to using my Belkin router/modem with wireless adapter and am now just paying/using Orange unlimited broadband. Unfortunately I will not be able to use the phone service offered. I have wireless broadband on my desktop PC and laptop with no problems.
I have tried to contact Orange helpline, but they are constantly engaged, another waste of time.
