i have just dumped Orange at long last .they tried to screw £180 cancelation fee out of me but told them they are in breach of contrast as they cant supply what they said after 3 monthst of trying .now getting my MAC code and no canelation fee.i suggest you all do the same and dont budge on the fee and we can all be free at last .going over to BT are they any good ......

I've spent the last 3 weekends trying t get a friends Orange broadband to work - found this website very helpful - far more so than Orange tech help. Anyhow even with help from here have only managed to get it working with ethernet cable for very short periods and wireless not at all.
I've set broadband up before with no problems and have had enough.
So rang to rquest a MAC number - and was told - it will cost you. He said she would have to pay £60 to receive a number. I said so we have to pay to get rid of a service which has never worked and he said yes!
I came home and checked on the internet - it says quite clearly that Orange do not charge anything for your first MAC number request - so back on the phone to Orange, different man this time and he confirmed that you do not have to pay!
They can't even get the basic facts right - and were no help at all with problems - thatis when you can get through to them.
Good riddance!
You don't pay for the code itself but if you're still within the contract period then they will expect that to be paid out. Though as the original posted showed you can get out of it by complaining once everything's been done.
