My friend pointed me in the direction of this forum and I was relieved to read I wasn't the only one having trouble with this pathetic company and their unstable and unreliable "service".
We have been with the company since it was Freeserve on dial-up and have basically progressed with it to Wandadoo broadband and then of course the mighty Orange. We moved house in October and everything continued working fine on our brand new lines, no problems at all.
About Three weeks ago I kept being disconnected, this was around the time I got the email saying our speed was being upgraded. Thinking maybe our wireless router had come to the end up its life I went down to PC World to buy another. The guy there was a great help and said although he would gladly sell us one to see if the problem sorted itself out, he thought the problem would be with Orange. Apparently they had recently upgraded settings at the local exchange (Arrowebrook on the Wirral).
So we called Orange and got their delightfully helpful and polite indian call centre *tongue planted firmly in cheek*. They were useless, and if we asked them to repeat what they said as we could not understand them they turned patronising and moody. They were no help at all, said our line had no faults and had been upgraded to around 4mpbs successfuly. Hmm, thanks.
After several calls to Orange and more useless technical 'support' we decided enough was enough, time to change ISP. Sky was the one we chose both for price and because loads of people had commented how good it was. However, Orange even told us the wrong information TWICE when we were trying to cancel our contract and switch to Sky, and we were hung up on Three times too as soon as we mentioned "cancel".
Our position now is our internet works for maybe an hour or so during a weekday afternoon uninterupted before degenerating into dire service during the evenings and weekends. Disconnected after sometimes 2 minutes sometimes ten minutes, takes many many attempts to reconnect, so much so I have my modem now set to automatically redial up to 25 times, and even then it still doesn't connect.
We are waiting 30 days for our contract with Orange to end as supposedly we have to give 30 days notice, even though their service isn't ****ing working!
I saw a number on here for a Middlesbrough call centre so I will be calling that on Monday morning and letting them know how we feel. I'm going to try and demand that they cancel our conract immediately so that we can change our ISP now and not in 30 days. And I want a months money back. No idea if this can be done, I will post again to let you know how I did. As far as I am concerned they are breaking the contract due to the rubbish service. (we have checked pc's, phone sockets, cables, modems, routers etc to guarantee its not a fault our end)
Oh, and I have been disconnected 6 times whilst typing this post

You do not have to wait for the 30 days to expire. Request your MAC code and make it clear to Orange that you do not want your service ceased. That way you should get continuation of service when migrating from Orange to your new provider. Better still, wait and do this from wednesday 14th Feb as they will be tied legally to ensuring a smooth transition to any new provider you may choose.
