Hi All.
This may be long so please bear with me! Back in November I upgraded to livebox unlimited. Went from 1.1meg to averaging 5.5 (on 8 meg) via speedtouch modem Tried to connect livebox found out I had no Lan card (!) thing in pc (after an hour or so on support!). Not a prob was looking for new pc anyway. Couple of weeks ago Pc arrived with Vista pre installed. First problem now only managing 736kbps on connection - rang Orange who informed me I can only receive UP TO 1meg. What?? I pay more but get less. Right. Rang support who said my modem won't cope with any speed more than 2 meg so I need to downdload optimizer from Orange website. How has it coped for last 6 weeks I ask - no clear answer. Couldn't find optimizer thing anyway. Time to try and connect livebox again. No joy from CD so rang support again. First one told me - again after an hour that they have no information about getting box running on Vista though I clearly stated this at the start of the call. Have a bit more of a fiddle and decide to phone again to speak to someone else. Another hour on phone support guy finally gave up and got someone to call me back. Went through exactly the same thing as before for another hour then got cut off!! pi**ed off now. Connected speedtouch back up. Another go this morning with support, guy clearly struggling to understand my problem - but then announces that livebox WILL NOT work on explorer 7........... Back onto speedtouch at 736kbps..........
Is there someone who can give me step by step instructions to connect this sodding thing? Please!!!!
I simply cannot beleive Oranges' ability to fob everyone off at the first opportunity. As regards to speed why is there no clear explanation that it should drop so dramatically??
Sorry to go on - thanks for help in advance!
Thanks for the reply,
cant get to 192.168.1.1 just says i am offline.
In network and sharing it only shows my speedtouch connection then internet crossed off.
Before I have had my computer name then a line to an unidentified network then a cross to internet. Don't know where these are now.
From what I gather this is the main problem as it won't identify the live box.
Thanks again so far......
also in manage network connections i have a local area connection which is the unidentified network. Under this is says NVIDIA nForce Networking. I presume this is the ethernet thing?
ok now when i disconnect from speedtouch i haave at the top of network and sharing - my computer -----unidentified network-------then a x to the internet.
hope this helps you!

Hi there Cure,
Can't answer the other parts of your problem, but I can tell you I'm running Internet Explorer 7 on my two computers (on hardwired to Ethernet, the other wireless), and my Livebox works fine.
Thanks Fred,
I knew that explorer 7 would work - I am semi computer literate but I dread to think how beginners would get anywhere at all with support - they are so utterly useless I cant believe it.
Really looking forward to my next phone bill
Hi Solutech,
Yes I believe you're right I havn't set up the network properly - thought support would be able to talk me through it!!! Have tried the diagnose before - it seems to lead to a problem with the router (livebox)
Are you running explorer 7?
If so why are support telling lies. I'm sure I read somewhere that Orange have engineers that come out and set it all up for you. I would rather do something pro-active like that and pay for it than waste countless hours /pounds on useless phone calls!
1st line tend to read from a screen that tells them that anything slightly different from what they have the info for is unsupported .
Give them a few months to get to grips with it and they will be more use lol .
I use Vista so I have IE7 and it works fine .
If the livebox is on its default settings and you type http://configuration.adsl into IE7 what does that pull up ? .
It should give you the config pages . Default username and password are both "admin" minus the quotes of course lol .
Check your username and password are entered correctly ie
myname.orangehome.co.uk@fs for the username and whatever password you used when you set up the account with Orange .
Your livebox @ light should stop pulsing and go solid . That means its connected .
thanks for reply mate. Have tried that url but it just comes up page cannot be displayed?? Is your livebox wireless?
I am simply going for a wired connection and was also told by support that I dont need to enter any wep , passwords etc????
Have also tried 192.168.1.1 but end up here:
http://search.orange.co.uk/all...92.168.1.1
Not sure what to do with this now??!!!!
Thanks for help
Dan
Ok try this instead. Get into Network and Sharing Center, make sure network discovery is set to on. After a minute or so, if you had to turn it on, click on start and then network. You should see an Inventel icon, right click and select go to device webpage.
If you can't get through all that at what point do you get stuck?
yes did that but there is no icon there - only my compter icon......
As keithwjones said it could be an IP address issue.
Go back to network and sharing,
Click manage network connections on the left,
Right click your ethernet and select properties,
In the middle box highlight Internet Protocol IPv4 and click properties,
In the box that comes up you want it to be set to the two automatic options,
If they're not set put the dots next to them and apply/ok everything and see if you get anything more showing in network or network and sharing center.
