Elhana what have you done - well not you personally.
I was on Max with speeds around 6 - very good. Last night speed was about 2.7 which I thought was strange then looked at stats:
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 9.0
Attenuation (dB) : 37.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 7936
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 7168 288
Saw 288 and thought must be LLU - checked BT and yes I had cease order for Max and order for LLU. My exchange info does not show LLU available, but I gather this is common so that other ISPs do not know what is happening.
Today received email:
Hello
Great news. We're making some changes that could mean we can speed up your broadband service - for free!
I note Noise margin (dB) : 9.0 before with Max would either be 5.7, 6.0 or 6.2.
Pretty much the same problem i have, Orange wont move us back, they refuse to believe that i got better speeds on max, and that their network is better ,which is clearly isnt, and im not going to spend days onthe phone to some ****** who ant understand me, nevermind help

Yeah definitely LLU, LLU availability and when upgrades are to take place is often considered business sensitive so they don't make it public, it's usually reported and confirmed by people who find out they're on it.

Question is what can I do to get speed back up?
That margin is fine, it may drop a little to allow a little more speed at some point depending on what the LLU system is actually aiming for.
Immediately I wouldn't do anything about the speed, it's best to wait a couple of days to see what happens as it could go back up again.
LLU does get capped but it's supposed to be at what the line can handle and I believe the way it does that is to limit the sync speed rather than just the data throughput. I'm not 100% certain on that though.
Appears that I am luckier than most. Speed is still between 2.2 and 2.7 on LLU.
Out of interest I've just checked BTW:
Our test also indicates that your line should be able to support a potential ADSL Max broadband line rate of 4Mbps or greater.
It use to say 6.5

I too am getting a steady 2.5Mb but the Orange linechecker still says I should be getting "at least 5Mb". Anyone got any experience of Sky Broadband as they have just offered me up to 16Mb (probably max 5Mb) for £10 per month (presently paying Orange £27.99)
