New to Orange broadband. Everything seems to be ok with the exception that a high proportion of my outgoing mails are disappearing.
Outlook 2003 SP2. Have configured a new email account per the correct pop/smtp settings. The "test settings" in the account configuration dialogue works just fine - I receive the test message. Regular outgoing mail leaves the PC - no error messages are received.
Mail to my new Orange email address arrives ok. Mail to a yahoo.co.uk address arrives fine. A single mail reached a hotmail account from the many that were sent. No mail is reaching either a corporate email account or a register.com account.
From reading this forum and others it appears that the Orange / wanadoo / freeserve mail serves have in the past been blocked by various different mailservers. Is this still prevalent (although it would need to be very prevalent or I would need to be very unlucky for it to affect 3 out of 4 mail providers). If so, how can I go about requesting that it is unblocked? And what am I requesting be unblocked? (I got my IP out of a message header and checked that against register.com's blocked list but it was ok - and at this point I am dancing around the perimeters of my ignorance).
Please help. I am, quite literally, beside myself.
I also made this post here where there is greater discussion about this. I stumble upon a work around here which involves switching the outgoing smtp port on the mail account to 587. This allows me to send mail through my 3rd party register.com smtp account. I don't quite understand why, and I think this may only work for smtp servers which require authentication, but hope the info is helpful to people...
Also, just had a conversation with a UK-based tech support agent regarding the talk service. She was so much better than the offshore lot. I asked her if she was aware of their mailservers being blocked and she said they were, they were working on it, it had been a problem since about Thursday...
Most if not all outgoing mail problems from Orange/Wanadoo/freeserve accounts could be put down to the fact that a number of their mail server IP addresses are in the Spamhaus Block List (SBL).
When I try to send email to my work account they're blocked because our mailservers at work REJECT OUTRIGHT anything that's listed in SBL. I'm willing to bet that many other sites which use Spamhaus do the same.
Today, I have been having an identical problem with a friend who has broadband with Orange. Email messages sent to me WITHOUT attachments all 'get through' the Orange server BUT any sent WITH an attachment do not arrive my end.
The strange thing is that after being sent to me, the messages with attachments do appear in my friends SENT folder and are not bounced back!
Therefore, the sender has no indication that the message AND the attachment have been deleted at the Orange server.
We did manage to get things working momentarily by simply ticking the box in the email editor (Incredimail) ' my server requires authentication' More information here:

If anyone from Orange reads this, would you please post a message on the Website or at least send out a 'block email' to members so that users are made aware of the ongoing problem. As you can imagine, it's very embarrassing to send a message with no indication that it only went as far as the server before being deleted!!
In the meantime, I hope this write up assists others with a similar predicament.
It would be a major problem if their own servers were deleting email. Often is the case with these sorts of problems the emails are sent ok so there is no response back saying it couldn't send. After it's gone if it gets deleted at the receiving server because it's believed spam or simply refused often it just disappears. The increasing amount of spam means more providers are stopping bounce back responses as they can be spam in themselves and just make more mail in an already bloated system.
Thank you Elhana. I see it makes sense for the messages not to be bounced back. Messages with attachments sent via Hotmail are all allowed through and accepted by TalkTalk. Every attachment is checked first for Viruses. The setup at Orange appears to be too restrictive because all messages containing attachments, irrespective of file size are not forwarded to TalkTalk.
Until a few days ago there was no problem so hopefully, the matter can be resolved soon by Orange.

Maybe the messages with attachments are being quarantined - e.g the attachment type is banned at the receiving site?
Thanks for the input.
All attachments were JPG's, some very small, a few K and a few about 1Mb
(All checked for viruses before being sent) so that shouldn't be the problem. Unless Orange sorts this out soon, I suspect they are going to lose a large number of customers. In fairness to my ISP, Talktalk, I don't have this problem thank goodness!
I can confirm that all my current email messages to Hotmail via Orange's fsnet email server are not reaching Hotmail. This is a serious problem and I've sent an email to Orange customer services to ask them if they can 'fix' their servers i.e. refrain from bouncing spam and non-delivered email back-out and adding to spam-count. I believe I am one of many who have complained in recent months. Does anyone know the IP address of the fsnet server(s) or how I can find out so I can check with the spamcop site.
BTW, my test emails to Hotmail had no attachments had one word in the email text

I suspect that this problem will run and run. I know of at least 3 intended recipients of my e-mails did not receive them. The problem is that, not only do you have no notification of non-delivery, sometimes you get through to a particular recipient and sometimes you don't, so you're never sure.
"Orange is in contact with several well-recognised blacklisting organisations, and works to ensure that our mail servers are not blocked by organisations choosing to use these lists. This is not always possible and occasionally some organisations may list our mail servers.
When this happens we work to have that listing removed as soon as possible."
Interestingly on the same day, Hotmail started working again and then stopped. I've set-up a Hotmail.co.uk email account and can monitor email movements. Spamcop doesn't list fsnet servers 193.252.22.157 & 158 as being blocked so it seems MSN is using other criteria
I've also had the following reply to my 'complaint' to MSN Hotmail:
"Thank you for writing to MSN Hotmail Technical Support. This is Marivel and I understand that messages sent from Orange domain to MSN Hotmail accounts are blocked. I realize the inconvenience this may have caused you and the importance of this to be addressed immediately.
David, in order to help you with your issue, please advise your e-mail provider to visit our Postmaster site at http://postmaster.hotmail.com/...ting.aspx. This site provides troubleshooting information to those who are having issues sending e-mail messages to MSN Hotmail. If your e-mail provider needs further assistance with their e-mail delivery issues, they will have to click on the second "here" link under "Sender services, tools, and issue submission" or submit the necessary information at: http://support.msn.com/eform.a...t=eformts.
You are a valuable customer to MSN and we are glad to give you consistent and effective service. Thank you for using MSN Hotmail."
I will forward this to Orange CS and I suspect little will happen
