Something interesting is happeneing here.......I am still unable to access my page via FTPMySite if I connect via broadband............however
if I connect via dial up , I can get through to the log in page and update my files!
[quote="satcom911"]It seems perhaps I am the only one !
I've not been able to access my web sites via 'ftp my site 'to update either since January , get the ''Orange members only...' message and no log on dialog appears.
BUT curiously - my one site on 'SiteBuilder' works perfectly as normal!
Noticed other peple with this seem also to have old 'freeserve' addresses.
Think problem has to be with Orange's ftp IP checker not recognising us.
This might account for your experience of dial up OK - different checker used?
Issue is how to bring this issue to Orange Technical attention - all I get is auto reponse email or guy on 'phone who knows nothing !
Yeah,
I'm having exactly the same problems Been trying since before Christmas to login (Not a bloody member!!) with no success.
Lately I've been trying to co contact them to get info on how to remove my websites (I've got space elsewhere) but all I get are the usual stock replies, including "log in to your account blah blah blah" I CAN'T, YOU WON'T LET ME!!!
It's so frustrating..... Are there ANY HUMAN LIFE FORMS working at Orange?
The changeover from Freeserve to Wannadont was bad enough, but this fiasco...................
I too was unable to ftp update etc because ftp was not recognising me as 'member', giving the 'members only' message on trying to access ftp.
Realised that the problem must be that somehow the ftp access IP checker at Orange was not recognising my IP address because of changes at their server.
Although these are allocated dynamically by Orange, if you have a wireless router this retains the same IP address - for up to 12 hours even if swiched off (time configured in your modem setup?). So you can retain the same IP address for months, a year or more if you don't switch off!
All that was needed to fix problem was to obtain a new IP address that is within Orange's current 'basket of addresses'.
ie switch the modem off overnight! - hey presto ftp works again!
My wireless router is sometimes switched of for upto 18 hours, still makes no difference.
I contacted Orange asking how I could delete my sites (I'm going to use UK2NET to host) and got the following reply:-
Unfortunately the issue is that as we add new IP addresses to compensate
for new customers our FTP Mysite system is not accepting them. Therefore
assuming that some of the new IP addresses are not Orange's, since we
restrict access to our FTP My Site product to just our own access
customers it is not letting affected customers to access it.
We are working hard to rectify the problem and have implemented a
process now to clear this delay as quickly as possible. Since you have
an IP address assigned to you at random it is impossible to know whether
you have a new one or old one.
In essence there's nothing they can do at the moment!!
I got this same reply from Orange too - word for word! Seems like random phrases stitched together by computer to impress us that they are doing somthing - not sure I believe it - pretty much gibberish?
I assure you this solution has just worked today for me - and it adds up - someone else has reported that they couldn't update ftp on Broadband - but OK using a'Dial-up' connection. Consistent with this solution since different IP would be allocated?
You didn't say whether or not your IP address changed before/after.
You need to check what your IP address is now, and then again after whatever timeout period is required (configured in modem set up?) - check http://www.whatismyipaddress.com/
Make sure that it's changed after the time out - otherwise you can't say that it's not the fix.
Hi,
The router/modem has been disconnected from electricity for 15 hours. On re-connecting I'm still in the same boat. IP address had changed.
Totally p*ssed off with Orange.
I receive emails no bother but sending can take upto 6 hours with 20-50 tries. Tells me SMTP not correctly configured..IT IS...
I think it's time to change.
Barry.
Is anyone else having problems trying to update their website ?
Yet again I seem unable to update my site. I keep getting the
Sorry this service is exclusive to Orange UK members flag....and if I eventually do get to the log in section , I then find my webspace is empty !
This happened a couple of weeks ago and eventually resolved itself , but now seems to have re-emerged.
Am I the only one
I was having the same problems, working not working days / even more days in between, during a long spell of not working and getting the message - Sorry this service is exclusive to Orange UK members- I thought hold on this speed touch 330 modem I have never updated the software for it, never needed to, well went to the official web site and downloaded the latest software for it, after installation Orange now recognises me as a customer again! works perfect and can now ftp mysite just like like in the old days!
One small glitch after installation of the updating software, windows ( xp ) wanted the drivers for the now newly recognised usb device, lucky enough i still had the wanadoo cd, so popped it in and navigated to one of the folders and bingo windows found and installed the drivers, a good point is i didn't need to re input user name etc because this info remained available to the modem.
Wow! You guys are great! Changing IP address works!
I am a Wanadoo/ Orange customer, always been BB with them. Have used FTP My Site and my own FTP client OK in the past. Suddenly stopped working for both just as described by others above. Orange technical support are genuinely worse than useless – they know nothing useful and waste your time and money telling you rubbish or stuff you already know. I asked one person if she was proud to work for Orange and she said ‘ I don’t have to answer that’ which I took to mean ‘No’. I’ve been told to try clicking on ‘delete my site’ or ‘update my site’ lots of times even though I’ve told them that doesn’t work and is irrelevant anyway. What's appalling is that they know what the problem is - some people have been told as evidenced by this forum - but they haven't told their support people!
Having found this forum I signed into my livebox admin and disconnected then reconnected. Was given a new IP address and now both FTP my Site and my FTP Client work fine. Problem solved in less than 3 minutes!
In summary, get your IP address changed and it will work – but consider seriously whether you want to stay with a company that give such awful customer service. Now that they have been so useless and uncaring, I have been forced to look into other ISPs because I couldn’t do what I wanted to do.
I am still having this problem, although disconnecting my livebox and then reconnecting it worked once for me, ever since then this hasn't worked, and i've tried it hundreds of times. I got the following email back from Orange today:
...................
We apologize for the inconvenience caused.
'FTP My Site' access is restricted to our own access customers. As we
add additional capacity to the service, new IP ranges are produced and
allocated each time a member logs in. Unfortunately, we are experiencing
a delay in getting those new IP addresses added to the system. As a
result, some of our customers are having problems updating their sites
as the IP address they are being allocated when logging in is not being
recognised.
We cannot update the site or ad a link, however, we can delete it if you
confirm this is the action you want us to take.
If you have any further queries then please do not hesitate to get in
contact with us again.
....................
It appears they are still no nearer solving the problem than they were months ago. Does anyone know how i could change my ip address manually to one that actually is recognised by Orange? or is this impossible?
