5 months ago I paid Wanadoo £20 to be upgraded from 1MB to 2MB.
Apart from unstable connections at first, things did improve after several weeks and my connection became acceptable.
However, I've just noticed I am now back onto 1MB!!
I did a speed availability check on Wanadoo's website and sure enough it says I can only get 1MB, although a few months ago it said I could get 2MB!!
Any ideas as to why this has happened before I phone Wanadoo and get the usual runaround?!!
Drop your number into the BT checker here if that says 1 meg for non-ADSL Max then it's nothing to do with Wanadoo. It's been happening recently, some connections getting lowered because the BT system says they can't have higher when they already were on higher speeds.
The reduction in speed happened when I requested a change from the old 'Wireless & Talk' package for £21.99 to 'Broadband Plus' for £17.99.
I've just phoned 'Wanadoo' and they are puzzled as to why this has happened. But they have offered to refund my £20 speed upgrade fee that I paid last year and have promised to investigate!
I'm not totally broken hearted as I don't download that much, and 1meg is better than 0meg!!
I'm just curious why my BT line was capable of 2megs for several months, and is now only capable of 1meg!! (according to the 'Wanadoo' speed check).
The Wanadoo speed checker (apart from when it's referring to their LLU speeds) is just passing on info from BT. If BT say the line cannot support say 2 meg Wanadoo cannot order it. As I said before I've seen it a few times already, customers not just on Wanadoo, being downgraded from a working higher speed because the BT details have changed.

I'd be interested to know BT's explanation for this!
I had the same problem.I signed up for the 2 meg package, and the shortly after to the 8 meg package.Only for my connection to be downgraded to 1 meg because my line cant take 2 meg(was on 2 meg for 4 months LOL)so is there anything i can do?I asked for a MAC code, but was told i still had 11 months left on my contract.
Well you could call and ask for the issue to be passed through to escalations for investigation. They should easily be able to see your previous line on the BT system and that it was on the higher speed. I'm not sure how much help they can be as it's BT's lines, when you're not on an LLU line, what BT says goes.
If it still say you can only get 1 meg then it sounds like a line fault is preventing you from getting a higher speed.
PS the BT Availability Checker only works with broadband lines that use BT wholesale and wiil give misleading results regarding LLU speeds if you try to make a direct comparison between them.
