I have recent bought a Dell Dimension E520 desktop PC running windows XP. I have installed the livebox software on the PC together with the external Inventel wireless adaptor. All is fine until I shutdown - every time I reboot, the settings seem to have gone and, whilst the PC connects up to my livebox initially, I cannot view any web pages and the connection soon goes. I've spoken to Dell and they say it's not their problem. Orange are foxed, although think it could have something to do with windows not storing my configuration settings for some reason. Can anybody help please?
I need to reinstall the Livebox software (incl Inventel drivers, etc) on my PC and pair with my Livebox each time I want to use the Internet - not particularly convenient!!!
I have a vague recollection that the dell software doesnt store the security keys as Dell dont allow for 26 digit . Try using Windows Zero Config instead of the dell software .
If you look on your taskbar you should see a little TV with little radio waves coming from it . Right click it and choose "Let windows mange my wireless connection" If you have no TV then go into your network settings from control panel and look at the wifi adaptor properties .
WZC in a lot of cases seems to work better than the software that comes with the adaptors/cards .
Your signal problems could be down to a few things , Interference being one one of them . Try going through the livebox's wireless channels and see if that gives any improvement . You can find the channel settings in the config page for the livebox under Security - Wireless connection .
