I signed up for basic broadband just over a year ago, appreciating that I was locked into the 17.99 price (the prevailing rate at that time) for a year. However, the Ts&Cs say that the price of the service is as per the website, i.e. 14.99 for the basic package at the moment. However, I'm told by the help line that I can't get this price unless I cancel and sign up again. This is such a con as they obviously hope most people won't bovver, plus it contradicts the Ts&Cs.
Just decided to have one more bash at the help line. This time got someone who said that I could change to 14.99 via the member centre page. Knew I couldn't as already tried (gives you the option to upgrade but not 'reprice' your current package). After going thru the motions at my end , he tried from his end using my sign-in info and was able to do so (as he had an extra option to choose from) and then admitted that this had happened several times before and he thought that the option might be barred when signing on via the phone line that is registered for you. If this is the case then there really is something quite distinctly dodgy going on. Anyway, happy now, just hope my bill does actually change.
Just be aware of the main difference between the packages, tech support is through a 50p per minute premium number for "Starter" packages. Hopefully you'll never have need to call them.
