Hi! Excellent forum. I wonder what you make of this problem:
We've been using a livebox very happily for 8 months. But since Christmas, both phones in the house have become almost unusable, flooded with electronic-type sounds which cease when you switch the livebox off at the wall.
(Possibly relevant: over Christmas, we unplugged the livebox from both the power and the phone line. I'm fairly sure, though, they're back as they were, with the microfilters in place etc.)
Make sure you have the cable from the filter to the livebox plugged into the socket closest to the power. Also you may want to check using each filter one at a time with the livebox and a single phone, just to make sure they're ok.
Cable checked - it's in the right socket. Have unplugged phone extension cable, so all I've got is the main socket, the livebox, and one phone. Have tried this system, first with the one microfilter, then with the other. Still getting the hissing and beeping. Hissing and beeping stops when you switch livebox off - and it also stops when you unplug the cable that runs from the livebox to the microfilter, suggesting it's not some wacky radio interference, but noise sent down the wire.
Is your extention cable running past any electrical equipment at all. Also have you always had a livebox or have you had a speedtouch modem in the past?

The electronic noise kept on getting worse, and after a long time on hold at the Orange call centre, we got a BT line test . After some more time on hold the next day, we were told there was a problem and it was fixed. Of course, it wasn't, and after a third day on hold we were told that the line test had been "inconclusive", and another was required.
By now we'd unplugged the livebox when making voice calls, and we noticed that the line wasn't perfect even without the livebox switched on - quite a lot of crackle. We called BT out ourselves, who found a broken wire at the top of the telegraph pole by our house, and this appears to have solved the problem completely both for voice and for livebox.
Moral 1: Orange technical support WERE pretty awful.
Moral 2: If you start hearing livebox hissing and bleeping, it may be a sentinel of trouble with your landline.
Thanks to you guys for your help and advice on this problem.
