Everything worked fine for a few weeks when I set up my new orangehome.co.uk e.mails in Outlook 2002. Then a few days ago I found I couldn't receive e.mails. Error 0x800CCC92 - Invalid log in/password pair. I have followed all the advice on Orange's web site, disabled Firewall, re-entered all info several times, sending test e.mails etc etc. Outlook is finding the POP3 server but not logging on. The test e,mails are sent and received when I look via Webmail, but Outlook can't log on to download them. I am using pop.orangehome.co.uk, correct user names, e.mail addresses, passwords, port 110. Both my orangehome e.mail addresses stopped working at the same time. Any ideas other than ditching Orange ?
Check any firewalls or antivirus software you have. Often they'll sit between catching all email being sent by Outlook etc, scan it and then forward it onto the server. If that's updated or not working right it could give you that error potentially. You could also check using Outlook Express just to check it's not Outlook itself causing it.
Thanks for your help. I have actually done all that - switched off Norton Anti-Virus, Firewall, Anti-spam, tried Outlook Express. Nothing worked !
But just done all that again and this time Outlook Express downloaded the messages, but Outlook still won't.
The problem is just receiving, not sending. Need to have a rest now, so will check everything again later. Thanks again.
Just come back and tried again, and everything now working OK for the first time in several days. No idea what the problem was - but fingers crossed
Thanks for the assistance, it's good to know there is help out there.
.....and 5 minutes later it's back to scuare one, log in or password rejected.
Rebooted computer, everything OK again, checked mail OK about 20 times. Left computer for half an hour, and Orange e.mails not working again.
Well, all my e.mail settings must be right. It seems to be something I am doing that suddenly blocks recieving Orange mail.
I've been having exactly the same problem since just before Christmas. Emailing customer support hasn't helped one bit, they just refer me to useless instructions via the on-line help. I have done everything you have, deleting the account, setting it back up again etc. but it still keeps asking for my password. Like you, I can send but not receive, then the next minute it works again. Log on the next day and we're back to the pop up box asking for my password again. I think there is obviously a problem Orange's end but they are not admitting to anything. I've had to resort to checking my email via webmail. Let's just hope, like the problem with accessing certain websites a few months ago, Orange eventually get the problem sorted.
Thanks for that Lynn - it's very important to know that someone else has the same problems, I can stop wasting all my time trying to alter things at my end.
I am going to experiment a bit with always checking my Orange e.mails as soon as I boot up my computer. This morning I did that and everything was fine. Now I have just switched on again and let the computer log onto Hotmail first, and then I couldn't access Orange mail. I will also be looking into getting other e.mail addresses elsewhere so I don't rely on Orange.
I've had the same problem on and off over the last week or so with my orangehome.co.uk email account. Some days the Orange server rejected the logon/password pair and Outlook prompted for a password. Other days it worked fine. I use Outlook 2002.
I also use Outlook 2002 Chris, but as Orange initially said they didn't support this, I reverted to Outlook Express for a while and the problems were exactly the same.
Everything OK at the moment but hasn't been all day.
I have had the same problem consistently since December 16th.......ironically exactly since they updated the livebox. Nothing has changed on my computer so I know the problem is their end.
Although it is a consistent fault.....its actually intermittent. I find its worse in the evening where about 90% of attempts to access emails fail. During the day its about 50%.
Does anyone know if Orange are aware of this problem and are attempting to resolve it?
hi , i have been having the same problems with my email and found that if i put my full email address in the user name section of outlook (and not just your user name eg. blah@blah.orangehome.co.uk, not , blah.orangehome.co.uk) it works again .seems to be a outlook problem not outlook express.
hope this helps

Just remember that will only download the messages sent to that specific address, other messages will gather in the account, potentially clogging it up and preventing new emails coming in eventually.

From what I've seen it does appear to be intermittant, it's being looked at so hopefully it'll be sorted soon.
I have been getting rejected mail checks from Orange since mid Dec too. I use Mailwasher Pro to check mail from two pop addresses (one Orangehome and one Yahoo) at alternative ten minute intervals from my Orange broadband account. The Yahoo pop mail downloads every time, but this is reported on more that 75% of the checks for the Orangehome email address;
The authentication failed for account pop.orangehome.co.uk: Bad username or password.
I have used different browsers, un-installed firewalls, used different PC’s all with the same problem. Contacted Orange tech via email and their concern for customer knowledge is poor. When I tell them I’ve un-installed my firewall but that made no difference their reply is “We think it’s your firewall” Several email exchanges have left me wondering how technically minded the tech team is! I regard myself as computer literate and have even just built my own high spec system, but they treat me as computer illiterate. The problem is with some Orange servers and it’s good to know, now that I’ve found this site, that I’m not alone in my conclusions.
I have been with Freeserve (good) Wanadoo (let’s ruin a good thing) to Orange (We want you all to use Orange mobile) for some ten years now, but customer loyalty means nothing to Orange. Could this be why Wanadoo had to close newsgroups before Orange took over?
Another problem with my Orange email address comes from a friend of mine who sends me JPG’s with mails (he uses Pegasus mail browser). When I view them in my OE I can see the picture but there is no text. When I try message properties and message source the text is there, so why does it not show in the message body? Now my friend sends via my Yahoo address which is downloaded via pop3 to my same browser and the mail is complete. This is a problem that seems to have occurred around the same time.
It’s time Orange got their finger out and sorted this problem; they must be getting many complaints. Moving ISP will be easier when Ofcom change the MAC issuing rules on Feb 14th. Changing ISP’s should then take only four days. That is when I will most likely give Orange the heave ho.
