For Telephone Number ********** on Exchange BANBRIDGE
Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that it is VERY UNLIKELY you will be able to receive 512Kbps or 256Kbps broadband service due to the very long length of your telephone line. However, your order will be accepted if you still wish to order. An engineer may need to visit who will, where possible, supply the broadband service.
Our test also indicates that your line should be able to support a potential ADSL Max broadband line rate of 250Kbps or greater.
The actual ADSL Max line rate supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use, after which time the highest stable rate possible will be set.
If you decide to place an order, a further test will be performed to confirm if your line is suitable for the service you wish to purchase.
Thank you for your interest.
Note: If you have already placed an order for Broadband and now wish to change to a new supplier, then you will need to cancel the existing order with your service provider or your new request will be rejected. If you do not know who the current Service Provider is, please contact your new Service Provider, who would be able to help you to resolve this issue.
You've got a long phone line - 63.5dB attenuation. I'm afraid you're not going to get any better than 500kbps.
Regards.
P.S. Depending on your paranoia level, you might want to delete this part of your last post

Thanks.
Really, I will only ever be able to download at half a meg?!?! is there anything I can do about it? Orange said that it would be a 6 Meg line when i was signing up!

Looking at the checker result and the stats you've posted, I'm at a complete loss to explain where Orange got that figure from. Maybe they mis-typed your number somewhere.
Firstly the 14 days cancellation period, I'm not sure if that works under the Orange contract so if want to persue that you'd need to check on it. Relevant bit is below.

After the Start Date you will not be able to end these Agreements except as set out in this paragraph 17.
From the posted stats I agree with the others, the attenuation is high so it looks like it's a long line. It's possible something is causing the high attenuation and low margin but as with the BT checkers results it's unlikely to go that much higher.
It's possible when you registered the checker did say 6 meg and has since been revised when they activated broadband and BT realised your line takes the sceneic route to you. It's hard to know after the fact where the 6 meg figure actually came from.
It was oranges own site that told me that I would be able to get 6 Meg. Maybe the same thing that happened to -=Mojo Will=- will happen to me. Hopefully.
I will see how it pans out over the next couple of days, hopefully because it is jumping so much today it will jump even more in the next couple of days.
Would BT be any better or would they be limited by the line as well?
