Hi,
I have been a longtime Freeserve/Wannadoo/Orange customer, and have recently moved to Unlimited with a "free" livebox.
I have happily been using my own Belkin wireless router for a while, and a Netgear before that.
Having manually configured the Livebox (using info from here) - as I wasn't too happy about the prospect of using the Orange Disk, I then plugged the Livebox into my existing router (having disabled DHCP first) - which then connects to the rest of the network, and I appear to be connected. NB the Livebox is the device connected to the incoming ADSL line.
Please can anyone see any flaws in my set up? Any/all advice welcomed.
When I get my details, will I be able to use the telephony part of the Livebox like this?
Regards all, and thanks in advance for any advice!

The main part is that it's working. I assumed you turned off DHCP on the other router? Can work both ways but it's probably easiest to let the inital device in the chain do the IP addresses.
If you use wireless from the Belkin then you may want to turn off the liveboxes in order to prevent any possible interference and then there's one less possible entry point into your network from outside.
Security > Wireless > Untick the box to turn off wireless.
You also may want to turn off one of the firewalls within the livebox/belkin. Using 2, although in some ways more secure, can also bring up unexpected problems. Probably best to leave it a while and see if any problems do crop up.

That should work fine. Not certain about what happens if the livebox is not used as the ADSL modem but as you have it setup it should work fine once activated.
Yes, I did disable the wireless on the Livebox, but I did leave both firewalls running (I'll see how it goes, but will probably disable the Belkin one).
Just to let you know that I have a wired connection between my PC and the Livebox. Since I was experiencing low signal strength and very low speeds in 2 laptops, I piggy-backed my previous belkin modem/adsl router into the Livebox using an RJ45 connection and now I am hoping that my VOIP will work via the Livebox and I can connect my laptops via the Belkin with a speed of 54Mbps, whereas via the Livebox this speed was down to 10Mbps or less and often disconnecting. I did not change any settings on the Livebox or the Belkin routers. Maybe this helps - I hope so.
Thanks for your support. I am still connected, but I am now unable to log into my Belkin Router (normally 192.168.2.1) and my Linksys Network Storage Link cannot be contacted either, despite being plugged into my old router.
Would this be because the Livebox is providing IP addresses in the 192.168.1.xxx range perhaps?
Any suggestions please?
I would actually quite like to keep the Livebox in circuit, as I think I might be able to use the free calls when they are available.
(I did warn you that as far as I am concerned, networks are a bit of a black art!)

Hmm if you can get back into the belkin, probably need to connect it by itself to the PC and possibly reset it to get back in, then you could try manually setting it's IP address. If you set it to 192.168.1.2 then technically you should be able to access both routers when needed.
The Linksys NAS, how did you access that before? If you put it on a manual IP address you'd need to do the same again and for example set it to 192.168.1.3. Otherwise it's been assigned an address by the livebox, if you look into the System Info page of the livebox it may tell you what IP's have been given out. If you then try browsing to "\\192.168.1.xxx" it should bring up any shared files available (if it works that way) for each IP address.
Indeed by disconnecting the livebox out of the network, and re-setting the Belkin, I could get in and check the settings. If I tried to change the IP address to one in the 192.168.1.xxx range, it was not at all happy. Tried it in bridge mode too, and it didn't like that either.
Restored previous config and I am back on the net again. However, like this I still cannot see my Belkin router, or my NAS.
Is there any way of viewing IP addresses dished out by the Livebox? The only thing I can see under Network says Lan Address 192.168.1.1, Broadcast lan IP address 192.168.1.255, Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0, DHCP Start address 192.168.1.9, DHCP Server end address 192.168.1.200. Elsewhere it tells me that my computer is 192.168.1.39
The Belkin gives me a nice little table of connected devices, but of course I cannot get to it!
I tried 192.168.1.xx where xx is between 9 and about 40 - any none of those point to the Belkin - do I really have to try all 190 addresses?
Sorry to be a pest - but any guidance greatfully received.
The livebox default is 192.168.1.1 . Set belkin to 192.168.1.2 and the NAS to 192.168.1.3 . That should work just fine as long as DHCP is turned off in the belkin .
I have a Livebox attached to a Netgear router and it works fine configured this way . I use static IP's on all the attached Pc's .
Thanks for the advice. I have set the Belkin to 192.168.1.2, and I can get to it fine. I am also connected to the internet OK.
However, the Belkin is reporting that it is connected to my computer on 192.168.2.2 (with DHCP off on the Belkin, and computer TCP/IP properties are set to get IP address automatically). As soon as I set my computer's IP to 192.168.1.3, I lose the internet, even if I re-boot the Livebox and the Belkin.
The Livebox still says that my computer is 192.168.1.39.
I have tried to reset the NAS (default IP is 192.168.1.77) and still cannot see that - but that is a lesser issue for now.
I must be missing something stupid! Sorry to have to ask, but any ideas?
Configure your Belkin to a static IP OUTSIDE the livebox DHCP range ie [DHCP range livebox 192.168.1.9---192.168.1.200] then make your Belkin 192.168.1.8 and disable DHCP in the belkin.
Reboot the belkin, job done
Make sure your PC and NAS are selected to automatically acquire and IP address.
Click start then run and type cmd in the little box then click OK, in the black window that pops up type "ipconfig/all" remove the quotes and you should see your allocated IP, gateway and dns.
