What a pain in the a**e are Orange "Customer Support" and "Technical Support"! Most of them are robotic idiots, with no interest whatsoever in helping customers.
Anyway, to come to the point of my posting: it is claimed by Orange that their Livebox is "FREE" - take a look at this page, and you'll see it clearly there at the top, in BOLD text:
However, folks, look further down the page, and you'll see (in much smaller print) that the monthly broadband rental includes a charge of £2.08 for the Livebox:
"There's a 12 month contract and existing line rental is still payable. Orange Broadband is subject to availability, compatibility and survey. Our fastest download speed is up to 8Meg. If your line won't support our fastest speed, we'll give you the best available. Price includes £2.08 for Livebox hire paid to Orange Broadband PO Box 486, Rotherham, S63 5ZX."
So the Livebox is NOT "FREE"!
Please join me in writing to your local Trading Standards Department, and also to http://www.ispa.org.uk/ about this LIE. Let's bombard them with some c**p in return for what they give us on the telephone.
More than a month on from the installation of my Livebox, and still the "Phone over ADSL" service is not active, despite probably ten quids'-worth of phone calls to their mostly moronic staff, plus countless, fruitless e-mails to them.
USELESS SUPPORT!
Happy New Year to all readers, and thanks to the people running this great website, for a great service.
I'm sure that you are right about the price Orange are asking for your deal but we have gone for a £30.00/month mobile phone deal for which the broadband unlimited IS free (though we have to pay £5/month extra for unlimited downloads).
I always looked at that "fee" not as a real inclusion in the monthly cost, though the wording on that page certainly gives the impression. Saw it more as a way of them llegally showing the livebox is still theirs and that if it's not returned, because they are out of pocket, they can charge to replace the box.
Either way anything "free" will be paid for by customers one way or another.
Nope, it's "on hire" so it's technically always Orange's unless you took the option long ago to buy one. They haven't been sold for well over a year now though.
