Today I upgraded to the livebox and attempted to set it up. With help from some of the posts here I set it up without using the CD as it was faulty. I can connect to the internet using both computers here but ONLY through one eethernet cable which has to be swapped between. I want one of the computers to connect with the ethernet and the other to pick up the wirless network, but im having trouble creating it. I can get to my admin panel and see what the WEP security key is, but my wirless adapter (sitecom) is picking up NO signal whatsoever. Does anyone have any idea of what I have to do?
Probably something small and stupid but I can't work out why its getting no signal and its sat right next to the box?
Just to add to this, i turn the security off and I get a fll strength signal and everything works fine. I know this is a dumb thing to do but at least I know that its jsut getting to where i need to enter the security details, etc
When I refresh availible networks when i put the security back on I dont get any networks come up.
I cant beleive out of 65 views no one can either be arsed to write anything or they don;t know. Can someone just offer some form of advice, or point me somewhere else. I still havnt cured the problem and the helpline is woeful.
alright matey. Dont dispair i think the either your livebox is knackered or your wireless adaptor is knackered. is there any chance you can try a different adaptor or router as it seems very strange that you cant pick up secure networks and only non secure networks. Try switching your router to WEP only and see what happens then. This is a long shot but you never know.

Its a while since I set my wireless connection up but I presume youve pressed the 1 on the livebox to set it to pairing mode and I then used the WPA only encryption as recommended by someone on the net as I couldnt get it to work otherwise, after that it was no problem.
I'm having problems with my wireless connection too. I have 4 PC's, one is connected via the cable and that one works fine, but none of the others will connect via their wireless adapters. I've reset the Livebox but that hasn't helped. I have just recently received the upgrade to the Liveprinter thingy... not sure if this has anything to do with the problem???
Pairing up should only need doing once . Once its done your device can then access the network provided it has the correct security key .
Some adaptors have trouble with the default WEP/WPA security mode so its worth trying WPA only and finally WEP only on the livebox after that if it doesnt work .
If they dont work make sure you have set it up right on the pc . Use windows zero config to manage the wifi connection as its easier to use .
Make sure you have copied the security key exactly from the livebox . Its a 26 digit hex string . If you have changed this to something generic like thisisapassword then that can be another thing thats messing it up .
The fact that it works on unsecured points it to a security setting .
This is a nightmare. It should come with a noob guide on how to set it all up correctly. As you know I had been using the an un-secure wirless network which was working fine, turned all the security off and for a while I was getting good speeds and all was well. Basically the speed then went crap so I rebooted the livebox. My wireless connection then didn't re-connect after about 10 attempts and i was pressing 1 for pairing mode. I logged into the livebox on my wired connection and thought id try set it up again this time with security. The adapter i have is a wireless sitecom self installing wirless and i managed to bring up the client which allows you to set a profile and which network you want to connect too. i gathered the details:
Enable DHCP server
LAN IP address
Broadcast LAN IP addresss
Subnet mask
DHCP start address
DHCP server end address
But when i get to the point of typing these in it asks me for default gateway and an IP, where do i find these? Also the securty WEP code I pressume you put in when you come to that screen it says in hexadecimal or ASC II( or something similar) or 64 bit or 128 bit?
Clearly the unsecure wirless should be working fine? Why cant my adapter just pick up the signals like it did before? it doesnt make sense.

Those look suspiciously like settings required for Ad-hoc mode, you want it set to infrastructor mode so it can connect to the livebox instead of allowing other things to connect to it.

To use WEP you want that set to WEP 128bit hexadecimal. You need to have DHCP enabled so it obtains the correct addresses from the livebox for IP and gateway.
Try following through this guide and see what happens. If you get any trouble then try logging into the livebox through a wired connection, copying the WEP key from the Security > Wireless Connection section to make sure it's perfect. After that in Configuration > Advanced > Wireless try going to WPA only, after that WEP only.
Once you've done them it could be a signal problem and you could try changing channel on the same page as the WEP key, though let us know how it goes.
The scenario is I can get a full-strength signal on either channel 8 or 9 but the speed instead of 54mbps is 5.5 mbps often dropping to 1.0 and disconecting. When i change channels or I enfroce the WEP only security, it completely dissapears and i cant connect. Im positive im putting in the right 128bit security code and I am enabling DHCP code. I do all this to what I think is correct and it still doesn't connect. Again, when i remove the security its fine. What I dont udnerstand is the first day or two i was runing no security I was getting 54mbps pretty much all the time, now its non existent. The problem with the guide you showed me dude is it assumes you are picking up signals straight away, which I am not and I dont get that box flashing up, taking me onto the wep part, etc. I doubt there is a problem with my adapter, as it works fine in other locations on differant networks. Again appreciate the reply, wondered if you have any other ideas?
Do I need to edit anything or configure anything inside the router settings? jsut browsing around do I need to edit internet protocol to say PPPoE isntead of PPPoA? Am i missing something simple?
The PPP method shouldn't really be involved in wireless at all, though by default Orange use PPPoA. BTW are you using WinXP? The only place PPPoE is mentioned usually is on OS X to my knowledge.
Hard to tell exactly where the problem lies, it's possible your location is messing with the signal or that there's a problem with the livebox itself. It would probably be best to try either another wireless PC with it there, or take the livebox to another wireless PC to try it out.
