I have already posted about this under "why is this happening? any geniuses?". The issue seems to be that my BT line is 'Profiled' at 135kb as per www.speedtester.BT.com
I see that this has also happened to bits274 and having spoken to a number of people also connected to Orange, they too are profiled / capped at 135kb download speed. Orange have no idea why BT has profiled it at 135kb as their systems tells them that T will deliver 5.5mb. Original post is as follows. Has this happened to anyone else - I think this issue is bigger than just 5 / 6 people ?
I have had similar problem for the past week or so. Before the problems I got 2.5-3mb downstream and 300kb up stream. Something major has happened. I now get a maximum of 130kb down and 300kb up - it is almost as if my speed down stream has been capped as it is just too consistent and never goes above 130kb.
Based on the above I should get higher but 5 days worth of tests at Orange have come up with nothing. Anyone any thoughts - done all the usual checks test sockets, wiring etc and tried with a Speedtouch 330 Modem and is exactly the same so is obviously not a livebox issue. Just run a BT speed test and my suspicion is right, it is capped at 135kb:
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 135 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 3136 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 109 kbps
fccg-im waiting till tomorrow to ring back tech support for the result of my line test, lets see what they say because i know what the problem is in my case...my line has become very unstable(maybe the cold weather) in the past couple of days...this is a fact because earlier today phone starting crackling with lots of background noise and got worse and worse now im not able to dial out.the prob started when my sync speed started getting lower and lower slowly slowly now its reached its low i can see why. hopefully if i get line sorted the ip profile will raise by itslef once im syncing at regular high speed

If you get no dial tone using a known good phone in the test socket, then you might be better reporting it as a PSTN fault via 151. It's a lot easier to manage this relationship chain:
Fixing the PSTN fault will almost certainly fix the ADSL fault. One possible downside to this is that a PSTN fault may not start a new 10-day 'training' period.
(Anybody out there got a definitive answer to this? Thanks.)
This will only affect you if you've got a low MSR because of line problems in the first 10 days on ADSL Max. Some ISPs allow their ADSL Max customers to see MSRs via their web site. AFAIK Orange don't do this.
This is the best description of ADSL Max that I've seen:
bits274 - I tried what JohnM said and BT came back withion 2 hours to confirm that the PSTN line was OK - I was hoping that they would find a fault, put it right and then my profile speed would be increased - may be worth you logging a fault on 151 or 0800 800 151 or do it online at BT.com.
Does anyone know how I can force Orange to get BT to increase my profile speed ?
BT man came today...found the problem was on my roof so didnt have to pay, phone is working normal now no noise and synced at 6688.
i thing if i keep connecting at a high rate then over the next few days my ip profile will go up. did a BT test its 250k so gone up slightly.
also my exchange is listed as red and due for an update next friday so if that was contributing to any other problems i had hopefully my adsl will be faster than b4.im unlucky.
fccg can you not ring Orange and ask them to restart your 10 day training period? if its a stuck bras profile(read it sumwhere) then it should go up by itself after you sync at high speeds regularly over a few days. if ur sync varies like mine did u probably have a prob on the line-do u hear any background noise on telephone?
if u find everything is normal your connecting at a high sync rate all the time and ip profile wont go up then i think u should request a 10 day training period again.surely they can do that...
Yup the way it works is the DLM (Dynamic Line Management) constantly checks the line state and can react in 75 mins to a worsening line and retard the speed accordingly through the IP profile . Downside is it takes 3 days of constantly higher connection speeds to adjust it upwards again .
You can request a retrain if you think you have a problem .
As Bits says if your line was dodgy when it was trained it will of messed up your profiling . and the only way to sort that will be to retrain the line .
For anyone that wants to read up on ADSL or AdslMAX Id recommend taking a look at www.kitz.co.uk as they go into it in some detail while making it understandable to the average joe .
I'm certain at least Orange frontline can't request a line to be retrained, you'd probably get some odd responses if you asked to as I wouldn't expect many to know what you mean't.
