I was upgraded to 6MB yesterday and this morning did a speed test which showed 4.7MB. It's now 3.3MB!! My stats from http://192.168.1.1/testinfo.html are:
ADSL_NOISE_MARGIN=6.2
...
Can anyone suggest why I am currently not getting these speeds??
The specific reason, no but those stats show that the speed has been reduced to maintain stability at that time.
Could be any number of things although checking your wiring, filters, etc is a good place to start. Little point getting in touch with Orange at this point as speed issues can't be raised until out of the 10 days.
Speed has been dropping consistently ever since I was upgraded at is now down to 2.6MB!!! Is this normal? Just a bit worried about when the drop will stop!
The best speeds i ever get on my 8meg upgrade is only about 5Meg.. even though i got told my line can handle 8Meg it still connects at the full 8Meg but it only runs at 5Meg at the most.

I'm not sure if it's normal, not had enough experience with Max to know if it is but really there's no point worrying until after the 10 days as nothing can really be done by Orange until after that point.

What does a noise margin of 6.2 actually mean?
Think of it as how loud the signal is above the background noise. Under 5 or 6 means it can loses track of it much easier meaning you get disconnected. The higher it is then the easier the modem/router's job is and you'll probably rarely if ever get a disconnection.

What's the significance of leaving it 10 days?
It's the settling in period, the system actively monitors the sync rates of the connection, disconnections, etc and then sets the speed which is the lowest limit before it's classed as a fault. From what I read it appears after this point the connection is often a little more stable.
I think people have to be realistic about getting 8mb speeds. I know someone at BT who has a senior engineer and he said people would only ever get 8mb if they were based in the exchange and no one else was using it.
i think getting 5mb+ is a realistic figure and you will never attain 8mb
I'm certainly not expecting 8MB: 6MB is the most I've been promised. I'm not even expecting that, but I'd just like it to stop its current decline. Last evening it was down to 2.3MB - half what it started as!
Spoke to technical support today - whilst discussing other problems I have - and he said he would do a line test to check out any problems. Interestingly, he said nothing about the 10 day thing that I've heard many people mention, not sure why that is. He reckoned I should be getting 5+MB.
It could be a problem with the wiring to the socket. You only need connections 2 and 5 to be wired to the master socket and all extensions. When i did this my noise margin improved and so did the speed
Full stats at top of the thread. Currently Noise margin and attenuation are:
ADSL_NOISE_MARGIN=6.3
ADSL_ATTENUATION=48.0
As I mentioned earlier, I started on Saturday with 4.7MB though I've been nowhere near that since. Top since then has been 3.3MB, with the lowest being 1.4MB last night (though http://www.dslzoneuk.net seems to return faster speeds than http://www.thinkbroadband.com)
It isn't an 8MB connection I've been promised but a 6MB one so I would probably settle for around 4.7MB - as long as it was reasonably consistent!
Good line The interesting thing is that with your margin you must be synch'ing at the full 8128 but the Livebox is showing 8096kbps. Maybe the Livebox is under-reporting synch speed by 32kbps.
