i joined wanadoo few months back 2 mps connection which was very good and always reliable. i foolishly opted to upgrade my connection to 8 mps a week or so ago.yesterday i used the net and was connected at 7.5 or something...FANTASTIC!!!! no its not because my connection was actually slower than my previous 2 meg connection. why???? i ask.why?
today i try using the net only to be cut off constantly...conecting anywhere from 7 to 8 mps but cutting off after 20 seconds or so. after 20 failed connections it connects at 6.9 and is working but very slow.very slow not even 1 mps. 25 seeconds to every mb file i download. anyway now it wont connect at anything but 6.9 which makes me think they have probably capped of my connection so it works and leave me to rot here paying 20 quid a month or whatever for this sh.... what can i do?
Sounds like you moved to ADSL Max so technically if it has reduced the data profile you're on it's BT's system doing that. Anyway you need to make sure it's been at least 10 days since first connecting after the upgrade as speed faults cannot be submitted until then. Once at that point if it's still the same you'll need to do the normal checks, cabling, filters, try from the master phone socket, test socket if you can, etc then call them to report a fault.
whats adsl max? do phone technicians for this sort of thing exist so i can pay them to sort it out? judging by the cries for help not just on this site it seems Orange will take a few weeks if ever they wud sort out my problem if indeed i have one. i just want my 8mps that im entitled to and paying for. id gladly pay someone to sort out everything and maximise my speed to the highest it could possibly be. damn i miss call of duty 2
oh yeah ..im unable to use dr speed touch diagnostics. it says problem connecting to the internet even when my internet is working. worked fine b4 my upgrade

I have this too but BT just replaced me with a new phoneline, i used to have EXACTLY the same problem as you, random speeds when connecting but going ultra slow then disconnecting now it never happens with new line also i gained around 1.5mb more speed.(330 speedtouch doesn't seem to go above 4mb)
However my Dr speedtouch still says internet is in error state, aka the last option on diagnose test gives the red warning icon but i do not seem to have problems at all now so.If it is BT line messed up you can have an engineer come fix it like i did by calling Orange and reporting the fault if there is one on the line.(check the noise ratio of the line too using the write log to disk option on dr speedtouch icon, if it's 50db or more this is a good indication that the line is unstable/very poor.)
What the speedtouch modem can and can't do is up for much debate, some get stuck under 4 meg, others can get higher.
Either way if you go over 2 or 4 meg it's best to go for a router/mode with ethernet as it takes USB out of the equation which can cause problems in itself.
i downloaded the software and my 8 meg connection is the same if not a tiny bit faster than my previous 2mps(in the high 2's) but its not a consisitent speed.
i just have a normal BT line and 330 usb modem are these alone not capable of going over 2mps?
and im still unable to use dr speedtouch..since my upgrade just stopped working

Ok well those results show one thing, it's not technically Orange doing that. It's ADSL Max and it appears the system has lowered your speed for some reason. It's certainly possible it's stuck there or there's another much less appealing cause, the system lowered the speed in order to try and maintain stability. Sounds like something majorly funny is going on with the signal in your case.
First step is to rule out as much as possible. If you can try connecting to the test socket in the BT master socket, try with different filters. If your sync rate goes up, (the actual connection speed may not go up immediately) if it does significantly then wiring could be the problem, if it doesn't then call Orange for a line test as things will need to be checked out to find out whats going on.
rang tech supp, did all their checks(reluctantly as id done them already) did everything had a line test they said my line was fine should get around 6 mps that my problem was down to"traffic" dont know what they meant i just went along with it because i was about to start swearing and crying if i didnt get off the phone. anyway earlier today synced at 7mps but still crap speed. now syncing at 1.1mps ip profile still 135kps.
Last Result:bbmax test:
Download Speed: 135 kbps (16.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 370 kbps (46.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
my upload speed is 3 times faster than my download...haha never seen that b4.my service is amazing very happy

It seems i need to get a high syncing speed for a few days for my ip profile to go up..i dont know what to do
The sync varying from 1-7meg shows something must be wrong on the line there. That big a difference I'd say only comes from a major signal varyance, peak congestion doesn't account for that.
The IP profile is what keeps the speed down so low no matter what the sync speed is, it does this to keep things stable, which your line appears to be far from. One thing to know would be what your FTR is, Fault Threshold Rate, basically the speed at which a connection below can be classed as a speed fault. It's possible it's set really low as that's how stable the line was during the 10 day period.
You could try seeing if you can borrow a modem/router to test with just to make sure it's not a problem there. Prefrably something using ethernet as USB isn't good for the faster connections. BTW this won't instantly speed up your connection, but it might show if it's more stable and can sync at a higher speed ok.
its now sync at 1.7 after left it 4 an hour. was using BT voyager 2091 ,everything was fine until a few days ago.now back using speed touch but still problem there.
maybe its the artificial christmas tree with built in lights which is situated less than 2 metres away from master socket.....thats the only thing that has changed because b4 that i did have a stable sync at 8 sumthin 99% of the time.tomorrow im a leave the tree off all day see if it makes a diff +++++++++
as i pressed submit i came onto an error page why? cause i was disconnected, tried to reconnect few times finally connect back at 1.1.
tree was off
I have had similar problem for the past week or so. Before the problems I got 2.5-3mb downstream and 300kb up stream. Something major has happened. I now get a maximum of 130kb down and 300kb up - it is almost as if my speed down stream has been capped as it is just too consistent and never goes above 130kb.
Based on the above I should get higher but 5 days worth of tests at Orange have come up with nothing. Anyone any thoughts - done all the usual checks test sockets, wiring etc and tried with a Speedtouch 330 Modem and is exactly the same so is obviously not a livebox issue. Just run a BT speed test and my suspicion is right, it is capped at 135kb:

today my speed touch was connecting between 1-4 mps but still randomly disconnecting ever1-3 mins during web activity.my dl speed still slower than upload.dl still 135 kbps.
connected with the voyager now no disconnects here are the stats

still same problem with slow dl 135.... upload 335 kps.
rang tech support explained thoroughly whats happening after being put on hold the guy says"maybe its because everybody is downloading and not many uploading thats why its faster than the dl" seems to me tech supp in india havent got a clue about our problems...
yeah and the line att was around 31 db few days ago cud this be the problem?
seems my sync speed is random with the speed touch but get dscntd.
with the voyager connect 1-1.5 no dscnts.
both capped at 135kps dl.
