Been with Orange since they were freeserve, no real problems, apart from the few times i tried to call support, and couldnt actually understand the person who ws supposed to be "supporting" me.
But due to roanges recent roll out of ADSL max, i ws told i could upgrade to 3meg, great, i went for it, (this was last sunday, the 19th)
Tested my connection on the following thursday morning, great! i'd been upgraded, i was getting a max speed of about 410kb/s, more than i was told, so i was happy, later on i logged into my member centre, and i saw that i could upgrade to 4.5meg, so i thought, no harm, so i upgraded, next day, i was getting max speeds of 294kb/s, i emailed Orange, but they were no help, they didnt take the fact it wasnt a problem my end as i had been getting higher speeds, so i gave up on that, now im stuck on "4.5meg" which is only giving me about 2.4meg speeds...
Anyone know if this will sort itself out? and i will get my 4.5meg speeds? my livebox info says i can get 6000+kpbs, which i really cant.. so im hoping it will sort itself out? or am i just screwed now for my speed?.
ADSL Max speed can fluctuate quite a bit over the first 10 days after your first connection on Max. Thats the time takes to get used to the connection and establish what it's limitations are. Depending on how this goes the system will set the fault threshold rate which basically determines what speed is considered too slow for the line.
Sounds like you need to wait the full 10 days from the 23rd (or possibly before) for the stabilistion period to finish, things may have settled out by then.
It may steady out or not, a whole host of things can effect it. Also Max is a rate adaptive service, the speed on your line can and probably will vary, as you're in the middle of the range. Often it'll vary during the day as things get busier in the evening then improve at night.
There is no set speed as such, as I mentioned before just a threshold set by the 10 day period over what is too slow. It's possible for it to be that 2.4meg is "within tolerances" but for now it's best to wait and see.
Well, a couple of weeks have passed, and suprise suprise, my speed is still sh**ty.
Few days ago i was getting max download of about 464kb/s, and upload of about 46-48kb/s which made me happy, and i thought, wow Orange have finally done something right.
Should have known my happiness would be short lived, next day i was back to about 350kb/s max, been like that a few days, but i come on this morning to check my speed etc, and its even slower! and also some things have changed in the adsl info, here are my line stats..
Quote:
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 11.6
Attenuation (dB) : 48.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 5760
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 4608 288
As you can see, my upload speed is even slower than it was before i was upgraded to max, my "Type" is now Fast, whereas for the past few weeks it has been "Interleave" Only other thing different is my noise margin, this is usually at about 6.1, but it has risen over the past 2 days everytime i turn router off and resync etc...
Orange are really p*****g me off, so if anyone can make sense of what is going on, please share :p
Thanks
PS. BT line checker now says i can only get 2.5mbps on my line, where a week ago i could get 4.5mbps... dunno if that has anything to do with it, although im still getting over 2.5meg speeds so that cant be right...
