Looks like the only way out is to dump this shower, Had on eof those extremely fruitless conversations with their Indian callcentre where they try to tell me I'll have to speak to the manufacturer of my router as they don't support thrid party routers.
I live down near the Police Station in Walthamstow, I suspect we're all on the same exchange which is in Lea Bridge Road I believe.
Well in my conversation with the call centre today, they said that an upgrade had been requested on my account on 25/10/06 and upto and possibly on the day of the 8th my line was 'upgraded' to 8M, back to 2M, back to 8M and then down to 4M which is where it is (well, that's what it's enabled for). The 'migration' hasn't completed apparently.
As already said this upgrade was unsolicited, and there was no communication that I'm aware of telling me it was happening muchless on what date. There was a vague email back in June that said they would be upgrading if possible.
I'm starting to wonder if a car crashed into the Walthamstow exchange box, the whole Orange E17 crew are coming on here with the same issues . My connection is even more slower tonight (if that was even possible) - you just end up staring at the two modem lights in the bottom right corner, pleading for them to start flashing. Mega frustrating, cancel your Orange broadband then ring back and cancel again, terrible service.
I been having constant disconnects since oct 30th but now it's been 5-6 days since i've had a connection.I am in west london area but like you guys getting incredibly frustrated. So soon it'll be 4 weeks of no fixing whatsoever.
Going to give it one more day though as i called orang tech support last night they said wait 48 hours then call back, if it it's not up by then i'll cancel, wait 10 days then sign up to BE.
I don't know about the rest of the Walthamstow crew, but I have a full bandwidth connection as of this morning, obviously they sorted out whatever 'my' problem was. Leaving a bitter taste in my mouth at the moment though, going to see how it pans out for a while before I dump them.
Since this morning, I too have proper broadband speeds for the first time in weeks. I'm also in Walthamstow (E17), so the recent derisory service must have been due to issues at the local exchange.
I'm still not sure how bright the future is with Orange after this experience & a switch to another ISP is quite likely.
we cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried and cried.
i'd had no problems with broadband speeds - but then i dont use the LiveBox - i use my own ADSL2 router/wifi combo box
one suggestion about getting "slow" broadband speeds - disconnect any windows boxes you have, and connect via a MAC or Linux. See if theres a big difference - if the MAC or Linux are speedy, then you have Windows malware/virus/zombie problem.
If I am late in saying soon, BE* do accept LLU MAC code. i migrated over to them from Orange on 6.12.06. It took a total of 7 days, which is very good.
Orange tried tell the same thing about Be not accepting LLU MAC.
cheers mate, although I've now fully disconnected from Orange as well as cancelled by direct debit immediately.
I will be moving to BE very soon, I'm moving house in the next week or two so I will arrange it for then.
Also just to add to this post, I wrote a letter of complaint to Orange once I had cancelled. They wrote back to me last week advising that they have no records of my connection difficulties, and that no compensation could therefore be offered! So basically they're suggesting I lied about the details I provided with regards to inept conversations with their Indian Tech Support team - I've wrote back to them today stating
A) I would not have cancelled my Orange Broadband after 6 years otherwise.
B) The USB speedtouch modem, cannot handle the LLU ADSL MAX network - it was advised by one of their own English tech support people , who then provided the livebox to try and resolve the situation - which it never. Therefore anyone with an old Speedtouch modem would have the same problems as I have.
C) I highlighted the fact that it is alarming that Orange UK have no records of my calls logged with the Orange Indian tech support team. I questioned their communication between the two departments/countries, and suggested they re-check their Indian call records - as I certainly am not lying. I also mentioned that normally I never complain! However the service has been terrible, and secondly they have no record of any of my complaints, so I felt a need to reply to that
