Cheers for that. Can I ask you which, if any, versions of these CDs "customise" the user's Internet Explorer? Thanks.
I'm not 100% certain but I beleive at least the Orange livebox CD and Wanadoo CD's would install the Orange/wanadoo toolbar, brand Internet Explorer and add some toolbar thing to Outlook Express.
The Speedtouch CD I don't know offhand, it may do some or all of the above.

Thanks. I'll be wary of all the Wanadoo/Orange CDs then
Tried the guide to change to PPPoe but there was no speed increase for me. If anything it made my already capped download speed slightly slower. Only slightly though.
Im synced at 5632kbps with 7.1 of snr but my actual download speed never ever rises above 2700kbps or so.
For Encapsulation I have -
LLC-Mux
VC-Mux
Should these be changed or do I just need to change the Internet Protocol to PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet)
Hi,
If you've got a normal Livebox then you won't be able to change the protocol/encapsulation anyway, even though it appears that you can.
On IPstream use PPPOA/VC or PPPOE/LLC. On LLU PPPOA/VC is recommended - dont know if anything else works. Maybe somone on LLU who doesn't use a livebox could try it and let us know
In theory, it shouldn't make a significant difference to download speeds.
I've read the posts on here and I can confirm that making the changes to PPPOE have made a difference for me. The System Information page also shows that I've changed to PPPOE from PPPOA. My Internet speed has picked a bit (not brilliantly) but most notably of all my VOIP quality has increased a lot! Now the phone conversations are clear and crisp rather than it feeling like I'm talking to the metal cast of Futurama!
I got my Livebox yesterday, and noticed I was getting slower speeds, I have a 1Meg connection, I checked my speed on SpeedTest and I was getting 512kbps speeds, I changed it over to PPPoE and instantly noticed the difference both wired and wirelessly.
Can i just say... those changes did nothing for me, dunno if its because im on LLU but i use pppoe on my other router and the speeds are exactly the same on that one and the livebox which uses pppoa so.... =\
Well my last router was configured on PPPoE, when I tried PPPoA on my last router I couldn't even connect, so I dunno why it works for some people and not others.
Edit: I've just noticed that my upstream has decrased to 96 from 288, I don't know if this is because I changed to PPPoE, has anyone else experienced this?
Is the upstream even controlled by Orange or is it a BT thing?
I mean its not like i've been hammering my upload lately, its too slow to do anthing with FFS, so I don't think i've been capped, if thats how capping works i'm not sure.
