Having lost access to my Freeserve account due to excessive spam I was unsuccessful in getting them to clear my Spam as Wanadoo had previously done.
I asked for my MAC code so that I could change ISP and was told that they could 'definately' supply a MAC code, only then to be told that they had closed my account (rather than migrating it) and therefore couldn't give me a MAC code!
I had some problems with a flakey connection and didn't get anywhere with Orange customer support so asked for a MAC code. Recieved a letter from their operational support department telling me I couldn't get a MAC code because there was no active account on the line. Talked to the call centre who told me there was a cease tag on the line i.e. they had cancelled my account. And was advised that the only way I could transfer my service was to cancel my account (which according to them was already cancelled) Which I did, and was then told that I had cancelled my account.
I used to work for an ISP, so I know how difficult it can be to not only get a MAC code but a working one, only to have to go back and start all over again.
I found a really useful website today, that has some great information MAC code's and even a validty checker.
Sorry I would not plug my MAC code into any webform except an ISP to which I wanted to migrate to. I can imagine some dodgy start up ISP, or possibly dodgy employee of another ISP siphonining off MAC codes and trying to migrate you to their ISP
For Info, my LLU MAC code with Orange was
LL followed by the first two characters of your exchange which can be found from SamKnows - e.g. MRALT is the code for Altrincham, so the next 2 chars would be MR
this is followed by NNNNNNN/XXNNX
where N = number, X = char
If there are any problems with the MAC being wrong, then I am sure the ISPA / OFCOM would come down on the offending ISP like a ton of bricks

Especially when the company's origins are Czech Republic.
