Has anyone managed to get any kind of VPN working. I have been on the livebox since April and tried everything I can find on google and usenet, and nothing seems to work.
Am assuming either the livebox is crippled and doesn't support the required protocols or I haven't found the right combination of port forwarding rules to set up.
Yes I have VPN working from my work laptop connected to Livebox (both wired and wireless).
I've never had to do anything special to get it working.
I set laptop to obtain an IP address using DHCP, I then launch my work VPN dialer which I select a home broadband option, and then log into the VPN server.
Just recently though I had an issue that required me to open some ports in the XP firewall (ports 4500,500,62515) to get access, but never had to alter the Livebox firewall.

I am waiting (and waiting) for a livebox to arrive and do forsee a problem.
I currently use a Netgear Modem Router with a IP 192.168.0.1 and connect without problem to the VPN with an IP 192.168.1.1.
I suspect this will clash with the VPN and so will need to find some way to change the IP of the livebox....have done a search on Orange but there does not seem to be any user interaction for this setting but this may be the answer why some VPN connections are not possible.

You can change the NAT addressing of the livebox to suit so you can select the IP address range of your network which you prefer)
In the livebox config...
Configuration > Advanced > Network (could be another, I forget now, just look for the page containing lots of IP's and a DHCP enabling tickbox.
Be aware though, unless you currently have the VPN server on another router connected to your current setup, basicallly all on a single network, then that IP won't work as it's in the private address range.

All good stuff.

Some VPN setups use a 'virtual' private IP address.
Some VPN setups use a 'virtual' private IP address.
Surely that means it needs to establish another connection first in order to form the vitural network it runs over?
Some routers seem to feature VPN tunnels and such, don't believe the livebox has anything like that but as it's just data then I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I changed the IP address of the Livebox from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.1 and I was then unable to log into the Livebox at all! Luckily Orange support helped me out by talking me through resetting the Livebox but they were unable to help with how to correctly change the IP. They said that this is unsupported.

All you really need to do is go into the Configuration > Advanced > Network page and change all the 192.168.1.xxx's to 192.168.2.xxx's.
You should then be able to access the livebox on the new IP address. If you manually setup the PC to livebox IP you'll need to update this to the new addresses too.
As I mentioned before this really shouldn't effect a VPN connection unless it's got some odd software or you have another router/network connected into the livebox.
