We have been using Pay-As-You-Go Freeserve/Wanadoo logins for some years for a water polo club website. 3 logins each with 15Mb webspace. Since Friday unable to update any of the 3 locations unless space used reduce below 5Mb. Orange say they do not support these old Freeserve webspaces other than an automatic FAQ email. Orange say should still have 15Mb but clearly we don't. Anybody else having this problem?
Orange suggest migrating to one of their FTP My Site Pay-As_You Go accounts. Spent a lot of time doing that - frequent failures to access with FTP etc - and, after finally managing to transfer a lot of files, still haven't managed to access via browser.
It's unfortunate that they've done this at a time when there are problems with Mysite. Draw your own conclusions about the relative reliability of the 2 platforms
The 5MB webspace is still available with new Orange PAYG accounts (I've just checked) so you could always open new accounts to get some more webspace.

P.S. Nice site.
Thanks
We had no notice of a reduction in webspace. I had updated a couple of pages on Friday morning to location using about 12Mb. Decided to update another page a few minutes later and got the "exceeding your allocation" message. I don't know if this is a permanent reduction or another fault like the Mysite problem.
I emailed Orange re Mysite asking if there was a server fault. Got an automatic mesage back telling me to check my IE settings etc.
I could take more 5Mb chunks but it's a hassle keeping all the logins active and also adding links to the various locations. Time to move the site to another ISP witha bit more customer respect I think.

Orange, since they took over Freeserve, has had a policy of stealth. For example, when they ceased newsgroup access, the first that most people knew about it was when their newsreaders failed to download the news. Why don’t Orange just extend that policy and discontinue their cr*p service altogether. I’m sure their overpaid legal team would still be able extract monthly payments from their customers in order to keep this pariah company afloat and dredging in the cash.
Orange had nothing to do with newsgroup access being ceased. That was back in February when it was still Wanadoo.
Oh yes. But as far as I know, both Orange and Wanadoo are "brands" belonging to France Telecom. When Wanadoo became Orange, customers were told that nothing has changed apart from a re-branding excercise!!! Now you want to separate them? Why pull wollen cotton over the eyes? Et tu brutus!!! AFIK Freeserve is also a brand originally owned and operated by F.Telecom
Ok then, maybe it was france telecom who had them pull newsgroup access but it's more likely they were asked to try and cut some costs or just decided to do it themselves.
Freeserve was started by Dixons and then bought out by france telecom originally. I used to use the freeserve dialup back in the days before broadband.
Getting back to the point, I also have a problem with the reduced web space. My site has just over 10MB, and so now I can't update it.
Anybody got any useful ideas how to resolve this. Splitting the site between multiple ids is not practical. And I don't want the site covered in adverts from the ISP (the wanadoo web space does that doesn't it?). I believed I had a legal agreement with the ISP to supply 15MB, so how can they change it to 5MB without giving any notice?
If everybody reacts by just leaving the old dial-up Freeserve service then I believe that Orange will have achieved what they set out to.
The mysite sites do have an advertising banner frame at the top of the browser window but if you have a domain I've read somewhere you can use a tick to disable it, that's almost certainly breaks Orange's terms & conditions though, but than again blocking ad's from a firm that has just reduced your web space by 2/3 without any warning does have a certain appeal!
The mysite service is back up and is still at present offering 5 sites with 30mb of space on each.
I wouldn't be surprised to see these cut back in the future though.
