Hi
I noticed on Watchdog this week it featured the Talk Talk fiasco it really makes you wonder what direction these big ISP's are going seems its all down to offering "FREE"? broadband which in fact isn't free at all but they know the word FREE will bring people flocking to sign up
it seems that Talk Talk is at a metdown and Sky Broadband is following we know Orange is.
Seems its all down to greed trying to get all the customers and money they can without the trained staff and knowledge to back it all up their answer? open call centres in other countries who also havn't a clue what they are on about most of the time, and in the meantime the smaller superior more experienced ISP's who can't compete with so called "FREE" packages suffering because of the big company's greed,
i dont know of one of the big players that offer a 1 month contract all are 12 or 18 month contracts why? its simple people will not stay voluntarily if they wasn't locked into these lengthy contracts because of their third rate support and couldn't care less attitude.
Ive seen many people say im off to BT as they own the networks etc well they are just as bad as the others for example a member of my family signed up to BT Broadband in august and is still waiting connection just look on the digital spy forum and the like its full of complaints about BT.
It makes you wonder how the Broadband business is heading in say 5 or even 3 years from now if Offcom doesn't get tougher on these cowboys.
I joined Freeserve dialup in 2001 upgraded to broadband in november 2002 all was fine then later Wanadoo took over connection was ok till the LLU and speed upgrade at my exchange, in december 2005 disconnections etc CS was non existant nor was TS so i left as my contract had well run out but having said that Orange made it as difficult as possible to leave but thats another story that many others have gone through too.
The main point of this post is that if and when you change ISP bigger is definately not better, there is no such thing as "FREE" if it is its the minimal broadband the company can give, theres no such thing anymore as "unlimited" downloads all the big ones will throttle your bandwidth if you go what they say is over the limit most will put you on the fastest speed if you request it wether your line is capable or not (many are not)
which causes most frequent disconnections.
So think twice before you sign up dont go for an ISP simply because its a well known name ( Talk Talk, Orange, Tiscali, Pipex, Sky, BT) plus their resellers.
Check out DSL Zone UK and the ISP forums at ADSLguide and theres many others for a wealth of information.
Before i signed up to my new provider i spent a lot of time researching the different forums and sites to find the right one for me as not to jump out of the frying pan into the fire so to speak as i was determined not to be stuck with another Orange situation i found one and have had no problems since, it's time consuming but well worth it.
Just something to think about
Regards
