Has anyone got any idea of a time frame for the upgrade from Orange. They just told me would charge me £20 to send an engineer to the exchange to upgrade me. Could do everyone whilst he's there, lol

took about 6.5 days for me
I think 5-10 days is most likely
just read this from DSL ZoneUK
Quote:
For all people being upgraded to Max please read the following regarding the capping issue after upgrade.
The issue appears to be where a line is connected to a router and so on-line when the regrade actually happens, BT do not recognise the new line sync as being from a Max line (it's too quick). Later re-syncs at the same rate do not prompt BT to take any action either. This means the normal 75 minutes for a new or regraded line does not happen. The line should have the rate correctly set after 3 days. The reason some lines appear to work is that they are either slow to reconnect, not on-line during the regrade, or sync at a different rate later. Ironically this does mean that really good lines that always sync at a full 8128M are unlikely to have the speed change applied promptly.
The upshot of which is that if you are going to be upgraded turn your router off overnight.
[Addendum] - Another feature of the upgrade to Max is that your SNR will drop, possibly to single figures. This is normal and to be expected as a result of the upgrade.
Well on the Orange Change Speed page the other day it told me that i an upgrade to 5.5Meg, the BT Availbility Checker said i can get 5.5Meg - 8Meg depending on my line's accurate results, but today on the Orange page it tells me i am already on the highest speed available! whats going on here??? i know i can still get 5.5Meg, iv just been on DSL ZoneUK now and done an ADSL MAx speed test, with all the right data i entered i got told that i can get 7.4 - 8MB speeds, looks quite good considering i am only 580 Metres away from my exchange.
ran speedtester.BT.com which informed me the "IP profile" was still set at 2000kbps
phoned Orange on the 0870 number (via livebox) (saynoto0870 number doesn't work)
After 10 minutes got through to Chris. I explained the problem and he told be to clear my internet explorer cache. I informed him that I use Firefox, I reinstalled windows yesterday and that I'm not an idiot.
He put me on hold to run a line test. Then came back (I think he was speaking to a team leader) and said I would have to wait 10 days (7 to go) for the system to settle before he could do anything. Fine I said and hung up.
So after being fobbed off it looks like I'll have to wait till next Saturday till I can phone again and get them to contact BT to manually set the IP Profile for my line as the BT system doesn't seem to be doing this automatically.

Hi
If they have uopgraded your speed it should show to that effect immediately your downstream sync on your router/modem should tell you as your connection speed or bandwidth if you get the full sync it should show up/448 ..down/8128 or 8.1 or slightly lower, if it still shows the same as before your upgrade then they havn't done it yet, but by the looks of your BT test they havn't ugraded you yet.
Regards

If you use a router or modem that happens to be on at the time of the switch and it re-syncs "too fast" then you'll be on a technically faster connection but the data profile won't be able to catch up. Heard that is is especially the case where you sync at the full 8meg all the time. Can take upto 3 days for the BT system running the profiles to get upto the right speed.
If you can cope without it try turning off the modem/router overnight or for at least a few hours, or just wait a few days and recheck.

I suggest that your BRAS profile is "stuck" - it's up to your ISP to tell BT to reset the profile. But they will not do it until after the initial 10 day test period.
It is not Orange's fault, but they will have to sort it out with BT.

Are we jumping the gun - me included.
They told me I was being upgraded on 21/09/06 and it would take 10 days. I looked at members centre last Thursday where it told me I was on the upgraded package. I must admit that they have not sent me an email to say upgrade has been completed.
I was told by Orange on the phone I had be upgraded to max last Wednesday. I confirmed this as that's when my Livebox started reporting my new sync speeds.
This stuck profile thing seems to happen to people like myself who find their router always syncs at the fasted speed.
