hi all kinda new so here goes
got my live box instaled no problem but they gave me a top dl of 512 and i live only 928 meters from my local exchange
but my problem has been that i get random crashes on my pc
since i instaled my live box ive sorted it out and found out that its the NETGEAR FA311 as it has problems with xp drivers my old modem the stingray was on unsigned drivers and was fine no random crashes
i have a icmax 7 MB it does have a lan but i coulnt work out how to get it workin so was wondering if
Belkin F5D5005EA Gigabit PCI Network Card
was any good as it does have xp drivers and support
was any good?
i might take the netgear card out and try and sort out the mb lan
as i found my drivers disc and dl the updates
but ill have to get rid of all my xp networks and start again sounds like pain to me and idas you guys?
oh the mb lan is a intel gigabit
It is probably best to start off with the mb lan connection, though it is pretty rare for a lan card to cause crashes unless there's really something gone bad with the drivers. Just remember the livebox doesn't support GbE so it'll run at 100mbit for lan to lan connections.
On the side of download speeds it's unlikely the lan connection will help speed that up as at either 10 or 100 mbit there should be plenty of bandwidth. If you log into the livebox config and look at the system info page then the downstream rate should help show what speed you're actually connected at.
im now using the MB lan and had no problems at all
but i just cant understand why my yop connection is half a meg
i was on half meg uncaped and upgraded to max but my speed hasent increased ive called Orange up and they say thats my top wack but i live 928 meters from my exchange i just cant understand it i asked them why this was and they gave me some waffle could be this or that at least its woring well and im now paying £10 for max with my mobile contract but half meg leaves a bad taste
Go to http://www.samknows.com and put your number in the availability checker. Go into the BT ADSL section. What does this show for the "Standard ADSL RAG results". Whats the highest speed showing green for available when you check?
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 32.6
Attenuation (dB) : 29.0
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 9632
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 608 288
Hmm..
There's been a few posts recently from people who were on 0.5Mbps fixed speed and are now getting only 608kbps on LLU even though they have plenty of noise margin to spare.
so i dont know what to do ive complained on numorous occasions and all they say is they cant help me as heve done all they can and try again in a few months but when i ask them what exactly the poblem is they say its on my fault on my end
thanks for the input but what should i do then if its a problem at the exchange ?
but this is my gut feeling as a few people are in the same boat as me
i think they are still capping my speed and cant or wont or dont know how to uncap me
what u think?
Depends what speed you're supposed to be on and if it's BT or Orange LLU. If it's supposed to be faster it could be raised as a fault, but basically you need to speak to Orange as it would have to be looked into on their end and systems.
i will call them tomorow i am on llu but ive spoken to them on loads of occasions and they insist that thats the top wack i cant get a higher speed is there not a team leader or department i can ask for as everytime i call i get the same old
called them this morning and they said yes i should b getting the faster speed there gonna try and sort it out in the next 48 hours lets see what happends
