This is both a rant and a plea for help, but I wasn't completely sure which area of the website to post it in. Sorry if it's in the wrong place.
Anywho, last night at around 8:30pm, I was disconnected from Orange broadband (I'm on an 8meg line), and usually when this happens I just restart the computer and try again. However, I dd this Three or four times, and each time I just couldn't connect using the Speedtouch router thingy. First of all I received the error message "Could not connect to PPP server", so I went through the usual motions to rectify this, and got another slightly more worrying error "691, Password/Username is not valid on this domain".
I ended up receiving that error message everytime I tried to re-connect, though I know both are correct as I can use them to log into the Orange website, and can connect to the internet with them via a different User-Account on the same computer (I'm using Windows XP).
I tried phoning customer support, but was told "Due to unforseen circumstances, we cannot take your call", and then when I did manage to get into the queue, I was kept on hold for an hour. I finally gave up when I managed to temporarily fix the problem myself. The fact that I'm technically challenged when it comes to computers doesn't say much fpr Orange. I've sent them an e-mail, but after reading some of the threads here, I'm not holding out for an answer.
The worst part is, I've been with this company since it was owned by Freeserve, and only since Orange took over have I experienced any problems with them.
It would appear that the only solution to the Orange problems is to change ISP. I gave up phoning as they go through the same old script and resolve nothing as it seems the problem lies with them.
