Ok, where do I start, Freeserve and wanadoo both were good for me, no problems with either of them except teething problems when I first got BB 5ish years ago.
Rollon on Orange takeover and my line being upgraded from 2mb to 8mb, well wtf, it started one thursday night all of a sudden, I thought my router went tits up and tried another, same thing, random disconnections and 20kb down and 10kb up speed. I phoned Orange's leet support which 9 times out of 10 it was to some indian muppet who is just as clueless as the UK support ppl, anyway they have tested my line 5 or 6 times and found a "suspected" fault everytime yet they say BT keeps bouncing back the fault to them and thus they have to keep bouncing it back to BT.
I have phoned loads of times and waited like 40 minutes to actually get threw, then to be told, oh can you phone back later as our systems are down ??? wtf...
I got so pi**ed off with there incompetence that they neither seem to know what there doing or care, i suspect both, that I got a MAC code, starts with BBIP, after reading on these boards, I am not sure if I am going to have a problem migrating due to LLU or something ?
I would rather give them one last chance to sort it out as a 5 year old email address is invaluable and there is so many things that I need that addy for, but fuk em, if they continue to p**s me about, they be getting cut, as this farce has went on for 4 weeks, and they keep saying to me, that BT have a stipulated 48hrs to fix a problem once Orange informs them.
Orange was the worst thing that could of happened to freeserve/wanadoo, Orange has totally killed them.
And to top it all off, I am getting 33k modem speeds on broadband, and my router still shows me sitting at 2mb line speed instead of the planned 8mb upgrade.....
Update, phoned Orange again today, possibly like the 20/30th ime, and was told to phone back tomorrow and then phone back on sunday and monday if it wasnt fixed.
Enough is enough, I just used the MAC code i got last week to sign up with BT since they cant atleast blame anyone else for a failing line.
Hopefully the migration will be up and running by the 28th
On a final note, I was told by Orange that my line/exchange isnt setup for 8mb speed, but BT says it is and has been since march this year, 2 weeks ago someone at Orange said my line was being upgraded aswe speak, and today I was told my line wont get 8mb til end of year at earliest, so why can BT give me 8mb no problem but Orange seem to think they cant ? and why was i told I was being upgraded as "we" speak when it wasnt true and supposodly I wont be getting 8mb til end of year at earliest ????
I have forsaken my 2mb unlimted Orange download capabilitie for a stable 8mb 40gigmonthly download limit from BT.
I also get a leet 10 port/connection router from them and a videophone not that I will use it, but all that and 8mb for cheaper than what I was paying Orange for....
Hi All Just posted this on the Orange Intenet Forum.
""" I'll be as brief as I can.
Freeserve dialup, Freeserve broadband, Wanadoo broadband up to 09-02-06 a total of seven and a half of years good connection, good customer service if needed, though I hardly remember having to phone more than a couple of times during this period.
From 09-02-06 to 16-09-06 ( since LLU was forced on me, I had no choice ) an appaling service and abysmal customer / technical support.
Due to having such good service for seven and a half years I was prepared to give the new system time to get over the teething problems, and expected a gradual increase in performance and stability as time went on and remedies were found for the various problems.
How wrong I was!
Over the last 6 months I went from a stable 2 MEG connection down to an unstable 1/2 MEG then none at all, other than dial up!
I am only 2 km from the exchange, my computer etc has not changed etc, etc.
I am on my 5th Livebox.
Approx. 15 line tests.
Lost count of re-sets, re-boots, cable swaps, uninstall-reinstall, do this, do that, blah, blah, blah all to no avail.
The most agravating feature of this period was the blatant lies I was being told, promises not kept and promised phone calls never being made.
Not a good advert for a COMMUNICATIONS COMPANY !!
ALL I WANTED WAS FOR SOMEONE TO TELL ME WHAT THE FAULT WAS AND WHEN, IF EVER, IT WOULD BE FIXED.
As you can see from above, and from previous posts, I am if nothing else patient and understanding untill yesterday.
Then the proverbial straw!!!
I was still unable to get on line PPP server still down, the latest promised phone call from a manager did not arrive, the line test they had been doing for 2 weeks still had no result, and none on the horizon,no one knew when, if ever it would be sorted, and to cap it all I was on hold for 35 mins before my call was answered.
So next call was to cancell.
I have done a cease so it will be approx. 10 days still on dial up.
I'll do a bit of research but will most likley go to BT, due to quite a few friends and family having moved from Orange to BT and having no further problems.
I'll still come on here and keep you updated with my progress and we will all see if I have done the right thing and gone to the right ISP.
At least now I don't have to see that BL**DY live Livebox flashing away in the corner.
I was getting to feel like Quasimodo, my phrase was not the bells, it was " THE LIGHTS, THE LIGHTS ! "

PS Forgot about the lost emails, emails not delivered , spam etc, but thankfully all water under the bridge now.
Just like you ES a long term customer that can only take so much.
I'll keep you all updated as to my eventual outcome.
Comments welcome.

Sadly your story is pretty much the same as mine...and many others on this forum. Good luck with your migration.
One thing to bear in mind though, just cos you're off Orange broadband, doesn't mean your email address is now defunct.
I had mine (freeserve.co.uk) for years before those clowns came along, it is still active (though will have to reconfigure SMTP server for outlook when I'm back on-line)
Emails can also be retrieved via webmail.
So can gradually migrate off it , & you have to put up with the rest of their rubbish.
And the Livebox, well good riddance, they are rubbish
