I was beginning to think it was only me who was suffering crap or non-existent service since the "upgrade" to 8mb/sec.
What really annoys me is the service status page on the Orange broadband site. It always shows no problem. Have theyever publicly acknowledged that they have problems? More to the point, are they doing anything about it?
I bet Orange are regretting this move into the internet market. This fiasco can't be doing their corporate image much good.
I have been with Wanadoo for a few years, and am reluctant to go to the trouble of moving to a different provider. I suppose I am just hanging on in the hope of a fix.
It seems to me from reading the forums here that I would have to cancel, wait a couple of weeks for the to "clear the line" and then find another ISP. Is that about right?

Hi
I understand what your saying by not wanting to go through the trouble of moving ISP's as ide been with Orange since Freeserve i kept putting it off month by month and got so sick of paying for something that most of the time i wasn't getting and being told it was my pc my line my router they literally ran out of things to blame except Orange ( they would have blamed the washing machine if they could have got away with it) so i thought enough was enough said i was leaving they offered me a free month (better than nuffin) i took it and used it too look for a better ISP found one and left and glad i did, its a shame that when i read these forums that people are still having the same problems month after month and paying for it too.
Regards

Apparently Orange have now decided to hand out MAC codes so dissatisfied customers don't have to cancel and then pay another ISP's activation fee. They must have been worried with all the complaints about them acting as crooks as well as the ISPA and Ofcom getting involved.
If you want to leave just ask for a MAC code and migrate to another ISP.
Thanks for the responses. I'm thinking of going back to BT- if they can't do it right, who can? They are apparently the biggest retailer of broadband now, having overtake NTL.
I read somewhere (on this site maybe) that if your connection is provided as part of the LLU then a MAC code will not be issued, but I will give them a try in the morning...

Yes, I believe it's the LLU MAC codes they are now issuing upon request.
Also, have a good think as to which ISP you might want to join - bigger isn't always better!
Well I called Orange and surprisingly, they seemed pretty helpful.
They tell me that my connection is an LLU one, and they say that the only two ISPs that will accept a LLU MAC code are PlusNet & AOL.
Anyway, I should (in theory) get the MAC code emailed to me within 48 hours and then no more Orange nightmares...!
Just be wary... I had 3 of them and NONE worked (another 2 weeks wasted).
In the end have had to cancel account altogether as Orange "could not guarantee any LLU MAC would work" (their words!)
This was 2 weeks back, maybe they've got their act together by now.

Have you managed to migrate elsewhere yet?

nope .... but marker should finally be off my line by the weekend, so Idnet can work their magic! - will be 2 months to the day since this fiasco started.
