Hi all, I was wondering if someone could answer a couple of questions I have regarding the Livebox.
My first question is relatively simple. I'd like to know if plugging a phone into the Livebox is essential, as although free evening and weekend calls sounds good I really don't want a second 0845 number, because most people I know instantly assume numbers like that are sales calls and hang up.
Secondly, and most importantly, should I just not bother installing the Livebox? Just prior to signing up here I've been reading a few horror stories that people have regarding the contraption, and I'm wondering whether I should simply send it back and stick to what I currently have (2.2 mb Broadband which has so far given me no problems over the last year), or try installing it and hope for the best?
It is not essential to add a phone to the Livebox, just disregard that feature all together.
The Livebox is also not essential if you have alternative hardware which is working well, I would not bother with it. The Livebox in itself will not increase your line speed, only a change in type of ADSL network will do that ie MaxDSL which Orange do not offer or LLU which they offer but doesn't seem to work It sounds like you are on a BT IPStream 2Mb connection.
I would keep the Livebox as a back up to troubleshoot or in case your existing hardware fails at a future date you can fall back on it.
