Has anyone else experienced this?
I have been with Orange/Wanadoo/Freeserve for many years but not seen this before.
I get two vastly different speeds depending on time of day. From 6pm to 8am it is about 2.4Mbps and consistent. Between 8am and 6pm ie working daytime, it drops to about 0.05Mbps. The switch is dramatic and it's been doing it every day since early December.
At weekends from 6pm Fri to 8am Monday it is 2.4Mbps -ish.
Before December it used to fluctuate a bit, maybe up to 50% but this effectively makes my broadband un-usable during the day.
I have logged speeds systematically over the last couple of weeks and it is a definite pattern, no doubt at all it is being throttled/"traffic managed" by someone.
And to make matters worse, the interference source may not be in your property but check all items that turn on between those times.
If you're close to industrial units then electric motors and generators can be the culprits......as you're not being affected at week-ends that would be my first area to check.
Pattern is definitely linked to working days. Went away completely over Christmas period then came back 0830 on Jan 2 and have seen same pettern every weekend.
I can't think of anything in the house that might cause this and we're in a rural location. There is a house being built about40 yards away, I wonder if anthing they're using might cause REIN? On the other hand they generally finish work about an hour before the problem goes away every evening.
After escalating with Orange/EE they booked a BT engineer to call but cancelled it due to snow so awaiting a new appointment. Let's hope he can check for this when he eventually arrives.
When set up monitor the SNRM graph and if it's REIN then you will see a significant change in the graph when the noise source is affecting your connection.
Well, four booked visits later, and nobody showed to any of the appointments
Still wildly fluctuating speeds, although daytime I do now get occasional breaks in the daytime non-performance. More often than not it is <0.6MBps and still dipping down to <0.08Mbps for extended periods. Worrying though that I'm starting to see the dips at weekends too now.
I suppose I should be grateful that it has moved from an unusable to just plain rubbish signal
It seemed a bit suspicious to me that as soon as EE helpdesk escalated to fault manager (who did a series of line tests), there was a sudden hoik up in speed within a few minutes of the first call.
Haven't been able to find any signs of 600khz interference. Did find a bit of buzzy noise at 1200khz from a neighbouring property which seemed to stick to the BT line, but that didn't coincide with the drop outs.
Not sure what happens next. EE seem to be having big problems getting BT to provide engineers to visit. Not sure why that is my problem, I thought I was paying for them to manage this sort of issue.

EE seem to be having big problems getting B.T. to provide engineers to visit.
Recent severe weather conditions have affected B.T. response times.....inundated with repair jobs + engineers unable to access the areas.
Have you not asked the builders of that house what equipment they are using ?
