On some rare occasions I have seen 300kb download and even 400kb one time.

Does anyone know if this is the correct speed I should be getting or am I getting slower than what I should be?
So for a connection speed of say 2600 kilobits per second, which is approx what you would get on a 60dB attenuation, you would download at around 280 kilobytes per second.
So what do you think is wrong with what you're seeing ?

I think I may have confused myself with bits and bytes.
But after looking at my router again I saw the router states my downstream is
DownStream Connection Speed 2656 Kbps
When I used Google's built in data calculator( by typing 2656Kb in kb)
It says that is equivalent to 330kb. This is different to your calculations but im wondering if some of this is lost because of line length and quality.
Also If the max I can get is 256kb is there absolutely nothing that can be done because for this day and age that is really slow compared to some people that can get 100mb down.

2. Downstream or throughput speed
3. Download speed
Downstream or throughput speed is usually around 81% to 83% of the sync or connection speed. This is the result you get from speed test sites such as http://www.speedtest.net/ . This is shown in kilobits or megagbits.
Download speed is shown in kilobytes or megabytes and is sometimes shown when downloading a file or if you run a download test from for example http://www.thinkbroadband.com/...nload.html
So if your router is synced/connected at 2656 kilobits/sec then the downstream/throughput speed from a speed test site would return around 2175 kilobits/sec and your download speed would be around 272 kilobytes/sec

All this depends on how close you are to the exchange, the further away you are the slower the connection will be.
Thanks for the help I understand it now! But I have another question, My telephone exchange has just been upgraded too 21CN WBC which I understand is ADSL2+.
I didn't expect my net to go any faster due to my distance but In the last few days it has slowed down alot. I used to be able to stream youtube at 480p but now I cant even stream it at 260p and also the download has never really got faster than 100kb. Any ideas why this would happen?
