Not sure if I'm posting this in the correct forum, but I want to post it in case it helps someone else, because I seem to have got the answer to a problem.
I have been with the same ISP since the days of Freeserve, later Wanadoo, now Orange.
Over a few days our Orange internet connection dropped occasionally, with a screen appearing from "BT wholesale". It said:
"SERVICE INFORMATION
You have been connected to this page due to one of the following reasons. You must now shut down your browser and internet connecions before attempting to reconnect."
Then it listed 5 possible reasons, starting with
"The BTWholesale access circuit to your Service Provider is currently down ..."
I phoned Orange, and got a woman in India, apparently, who talked me through looking at my modem settings (I use a wireless router). She was very helpful. In the end she got me to add "@fs" (for Freeserve?) in basic settings to my user name (so it's name@address.freeserve.co.uk@fs)
She said that without the "@fs" I was somehow logging in through a BT login. I don't understand this, or why it's worked fine for years and suddenly changed, although I do remember times in the past using the "@fs" (I have a long history of problems with this service, don't we all?) All I can say is that it's been fine since then - for a week or so far.
_________________ Still insisting on my right to keep completely unlimited download limit I have argued succesfully against every revision of my contract since the days of Freeserve. I pay £27.99 a month for 512k speed but NO limits NO "fair use" clauses ...
