If your BT line profile has dropped it could be you have a similar problem as referred to here on Kitz site:
When your line is first profiled the theory is that the DLM system should set your IP profile in line with your sync speed within the first 75 mins. If a profile is not correctly set then the default value of 2048/2000 is used. This may clear within 3 days and it may help if you say leave your router switched off overnight... but some lines just seem to get "stuck".
. . . this mostly appears to happen on the better quality lines - ie ones that don't loose sync or need any automatic DLM configurations.
.
From your experience last time and your history you appear to have a very good quality line. and it appears this will clear itself (so I'd wait first), but if not:
If you suspect a stuck bRAS on your line then you will have to contact your ISP asking them to get BTw to clear a stuck bRAS profile fault.
So, get the speed up & leave the router connected & you'll be OK (fingers crossed). The Livebox v1 is now an old router, after 4 years mine seemed to get stuck so I swopped it through Orange for the v1.2 to maintain the second line (done readiy on an e-mail request, foc, delivery within 3WD and they don't require return of the old router - you would need to request re-registration for second line if it's successful and you use it, though; or if no better then just revert to the V1). I was also advised to try a BTBusiness hub (2Wire 2700HGV) (from ebay £15 or less secondhand) which gave me a 20% speed increase on the best speed from the Livebox if no second line required and it might work better with BT DSLAM in the exchange even though you have a short and good line anyway).
The IP profile doesn't restrict your sync speeds, only your throughput. You should be able to sync at the highest possible speed based on line condition at the time of sync and your profile will be adjusted according to the speeds obtained.
If you are synced at 2Mb with a 9db noise margin then there isnt much more speed you will get out of the line given those conditions. There maybe a fault on the line or you have a faulty filter?
Looks like I am going to end up the same as tinytim.
Returned home this afternoon to find a parcel waiting for me.
I had not ordered anything!!! Wondered what it could be?
damm!!!
A letter from Orange and a new router which I MUST set up immediately otherwise my broadband won't work. Why not!!! I have a netgear DGN2000 and a DGN3500 router which work fine AND Orange want me to use a Netgear DGN1000 which they have sent me!!!
And the letter states that they are going to give me the best service possible by moving me onto a new network!!! I DON'T THINK SO!!!!
My exchange has the Orange LLU and like tinytim I have been getting speeds of 14 meg down and 1.2 meg up for the last 16 months without any problems APART from the first 2 months when their DLM needed to be rewritten in order for the speeds to be reached.
That means I will now be back down to 8 meg down, 0.5 meg up. NO WAY!!!
My exchange is not BT 21CN enabled so I will be put on the slower BT Ipstream.
However I do have Sky LLU on my exchange so like tinytim will be moving.
WHAT A SHAME Orange!!! You decide to downgrade my line after well over a year of decent speeds by telling me that I am moving onto a better service. NOT!!!

Hi BBK
I'm suppose to have Sky activated tomorrow (Tuesday) PM but no sign of their router and because they don't give out username & password you must have that before you can get started. Once you've got the router you can extract the required info but you must have it to do that.
Apparently the router can turn up maybe 3-5days after activation meaning that much time without broadband. Only found that out today.
Tim
Edit: This is what they said to me:-
"During the next week, we'll be working away to move your service onto a new network. This may affect your download speeds."
I already get the Sky TV top package so I may look at an all in one, which covers line rental, phone, broadband and TV. Should make a few pounds saving each month and get 3 months free I think from what i can work out.
I've emailed the exec office at Orange and told them they are being stupid by moving LLU customers back onto a BT IPstream when they should be waiting for the exchange to be 21CN enabled before the move.
I also have a good friend who works for T Mobile who merged with Orange so have asked him for some inside info. I know Orange have signed a contract with BT to use BT's equipment, but if the exchange is not 21CN enable, then not much point being downgraded. I will be off to Sky UNLESS my exchange is upgraded very soon, which I doubt!
What a shame, after all that hassle last year for 2-3 months while I waited for my line to reach the max speeds it was capable off. I go a good year at great speeds each and every day and then I get a letter from Orange informing me that I am moving onto a better service. LOL!!!
Orange saving money again and sod the customer!!!
Good luck with getting Sky broadband, keep me updated and also how you get on once you are able to use your own router and how well the line tweaks up!
Looks like Orange have changed my package for me WITHOUT TELLING ME:
"Your current home package is:
Home Select - £12.26 a month, up to 10 Meg speed, wireless router, unlimited usage allowance (fair use policy applies)."
Great.
And of course they are saying my line speed is:
the speed we have measured on your line is 5.5Mb
Some 8Mb slower than what I was getting on the up to 20 Meg Home Select.
Looks like Watchdog might be made aware of what Orange are doing!!!
If Orange are letting BT run their broadband services and use BT equipment, then only do so when BT have enabled the exchange NOT BEFORE!!!!

Hi BBK
I emailed the executive office & was told email support only.
My exchange won't get 21CN but FTTC at year end but doubtful we'd get switched to that anyway & couldn't wait that long.
As for my package it was changed exactly as yours.
I got no deal out of Sky , can't go for Talk & line rental as under contract with BT.
No possible tweaking on Sky's line AFAIK but target SRNM is 7dB anyway.
Be aware that initially you get a 4meg cap with Sky until the DLM does it's stuff within the first 10days. Unlike 0range's DLM that we know could take a month or more.
We have invested tens of millions of pound in a new dedicated 20-meg broadband network. We are now migrating our customers from our legacy (LLU) network to this new improved 20-meg broadband network. Once this customer migration is complete we will decommission our legacy (LLU) network.
Our new 20-meg network is custom-built for Orange. Like any other broadband service provider we use some parts of BT’s infrastructure, however the core components of the broadband network have been built and are dedicated to Orange - allowing us to manage the customer experience including the provision of unlimited broadband as standard across all of our plans.
Why we have we built a new broadband network?
We wish to offer up to 20-meg broadband to more of our customers - now covers 80% of the UK population.
How it will effect you?
We also want to offer faster speeds to more customers, Our new 20-meg broadband network offers higher performance compared to our legacy network – on average 1 out of 3 of our customers who have migrated from the legacy network to our new 20-meg broadband network have seen their broadband speed increase by at least 1 meg.
In areas where our new 20-meg broadband network is not yet rolled-out, a small minority of our 20-meg customers will be temporarily migrated to 8-meg. Only a small percentage of these customers downloads speeds may be affected - they are being pro-actively informed of any possible issues.
Are you an Orange Broadband customer and not migrated yet?
We are migrating all of our customers before the summer 2011 and will be in contact with you detailing the switch over.
New to Orange Broadband?
Just been migrated to our new network and want advice?
In order to establish your optimal line speed, you may notice occasional re-synching activity within the first day after the maintenance work and some minor speed fluctuations for up to 10 days. This allows us to determine the best possible speed for your line.
To help us re-synch your broadband to its optimal speed as quickly as possible, we suggest you do the following:
1) Make sure that your modem or router is placed on a desk or table, not on the floor
2) Keep all electrical devices at least five feet away from your router
I guess myself, tinytim and others form part of the following:
"Only a small percentage of these customers downloads speeds may be affected - they are being pro-actively informed of any possible issues"
Well I have not been pro-actively informed of any possible issues, where you tinytim? I have been told I will get a better service. LOL!!!
Anyone find a list of which exchanges Orange can offer up to 20 meg on their so called new broadband network?
the core components of the broadband network have been built and are dedicated to 0range - allowing us to manage the customer experience including the provision of unlimited broadband as standard across all of our plans.
Broadband: this equips you to enter the broadband market without the need to build your own infrastructure, develop your own products or staff the operation.

It is a S K Y router , a spare I borrowed from my son as he was sent 2.
And yes obviously I do know how to do that but will wait until the DLM period has officially finished.
