i am aware this could be because of peak times but all my friends connections who play online all have great connection. mine goes down to 0.3Mbps which is unbearable. this is frankly a joke as it is not what i pay for. what use is good connection after midnight or during the day when im either in bed or away at school/work?
Im on my second box so it isnt a box issue. the wireless wouldnt work on either so a netgearWG602 v2 is being used for that.
Any way in which i can improve my connection or am im going to have to go to a different internet provider which isnt a laughing joke?
I have been on and off the phone to Orange for the past 2 to 3 months now. My ping on World of Warcraft is utterly stupid from 6-11 every night. During the day my ms is 20-30, come 6-11, it can jump as high as 5-10k.
The technical guy I've been speaking to has tried everything, but to be honest I have wittled down every option and the only thing I can think of is this, Orange throttles connections come 6. It seems they will block Torrents, and possibly see online games as 'Low-Priority' or something. Having used...
This can tell you whether your ISP is throttling your connection. And every time I do it during the day, it says no. Come 6 and it says Orange is throttling.
Now I'm unsure how games like MW2 work, but I know WoW has had issues with the latest patch on a lot of UK isp's. They changed the way packets were sent so ISPs like Virgin, BT and 02 users have had massive impacts in terms of ping at peak hours. But mine has been like this since I moved to Orange roughly 6 months ago.
When I spoke to the tech guy he said no-one else has had this problem so until they hear that 10 people or more have these issues they don't look into it.
I'm meant to hear back form him tomorrow and will give him all the details I have collected about throttling etc and see what he says, as I am pretty sure they are in breach of contract as I am not getting the services I am paying for. When my work hours change and I get home at 5, I won't be able to do any online gaming for the rest of the night. So what is the point of paying a subscription fee then.
I'll keep you updated
P.S - Sorry for the long post, venting some frustrations.

I'm having the same problem, download speeds seem reasonable, even at peak times but the ping rates and jitter are terrible, pretty much makes black ops unplayable at any reasonable hour!
have been in touch with tech services but they're awaiting my results of speedtests which unfortunately look within a recent range. So I doubt they're going to be able to do much about the ping.
Looks like i'll have to change ISP
