I have a really weird problem that I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing.
On Orange with Livebox - Broadband speed tests show download 3600 upload 1000. Problem is on WIFI and Ethernet connections.
I can surf fine - speeds fine on nearly all sites
On some sites - I can't download at all (6kbps) and they seem to be microsoft security essentials, symantec updates, Intel Driver updates.. sites like that
Cant access symantec.com at all (website either).
But then other sites like safer networking spybot download, Windows 7 upgrade advisor - no probs..!!
I have 4 PCs (2 x Win 7 and 2 x XP)
Its like a virus stopping access to certain sites- have scanned of course...
PCS have Norton Security 2010 on Win XP and Sec Ess and Win Firewall on WIN7.
Is anyone else experiencing similar..
Are internet Downloads particularly slow - its been going on since Tuesday 2nd Nov that I noticed it - prior to that, no probs..
I have the same problem with the Orange BB and mobile BB. Its been going on since Saturday 30th October.
Its an Orange problem as i have no problem with the laptop on a Telefonica or BT BB line.
The techie concluded that as my downstram and upstram speeds are good, then it must be the websites that I am downloading from ie Microsoft, Intel, Symantec.. Funny but can't see millions of posts from around the world noting those sites as being down - strange that..
If theres anyone reading this from Orange, then please be aware that my Norton Virus updates are now 5 days out of date, because I cant download them, so ..
I'm gonna give it a few more days then buy myself out of the contract and try an internet provider who's bothered..
I can't wait around whilst Viruses come in, because Orange can't be bothered to help me sort this out.
IT AINT A PC ISSUE - 4 PC's on different O/S's don't all go out at the same time.. well not in the real World Anyway..
OK - It appears to be fixed and Orange may well have been correct.
Symantec have advised me to download software from WWW.NORTONDNS.COM and run it.
Norton Internet Security was on 2 of the PCs - dunno why the Win 7 PC was affected as it had Sec Ess on it, but will download the symantec software and try again.
This does something, which enables my Norton Updates to download properly, and I can get to the symantec website. I can also download sec essentials
Orange ( as per usual) are going to do nothing about this problem, they told me to sort it out with Norton ( what excellent support huh... i thought i was paying them and not the other way round ) anyway.....
Spoke to the kind folks at Norton who confirmed it was an Orange problem with their servers and they came up with a temporary fix ( DNS. )
Even though Orange have had a ton of phonecalls and emails about this, they still wont admit it or do a thing and say " no one has reported this" lmao..
Its easy to do it manually though and it works like this....
To manually change your DNS settings to use Norton DNS:
1.Open the Control Panel from your Start menu.
2.Click Network Connections and choose your current connection.
3.On the General tab of the Connection Status screen, click Properties.
4.On the General tab of Connection Properties, scroll down and select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), then click Properties.
5.On the General tab of Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties, select Use the following DNS server addresses, then enter the two NortonDNS
IP addresses 198.153.192.1 and 198.153.194.1.
6.Click OK until each window is closed. You are now using NortonDNS.
All
Yes you are right on both accounts - Security Essentials is great and on Win 7, use that and the Windows Firewall.
But I had already bought Norton on my XP machine, so I will continue until license runs out.
Anyway, as I said last night and you have rightly pointed out - the Orange DNS is the problem.
I am now configured to NortonDNS and its great.
I have advised Orange and have a case open with them - they are looking into it - but I agree - they are very much in denial!
I think I'll stay with NortonDNS..
Thanks to everyone and I hope if you are having problems and read this, it helps you out as well..
