We have a 4.2mb connection and we've been suffering with many service issues with Orange. We live in the 0208 London area, running on a CopperJet Broadband modem (as originally supplied by Freeserve!) and for for the past eight weeks we've had a mixture of the inabilty to connect at all (password not recognised and unable to connect); when it does connect we get a very slow connection problems (slower than dialup) and for the past two weeks, we now get connection dropouts tooo and from today, email seems to be down! (anyone else got this today?).
Orange TS (if you can call them that) have said that its a BT problem; that it's because we are on "an LLU connection" and from today it's the modem. Today the guy said "I've never had anyone that still has that modem; it's probably that that's causing the issue, cos they were not designed to work at the higher speeds". Now, this modem has been working just fine for the last 5 months since we were upgraded FOC to 4 mb. What I have noticed looking at the Freeserve Connection Manager, is that the service seems to be dropping-out, so instead of getting a continuous steady stream of data, its dropping in and out, with the speed operating at about 10 to 50 Kbps when surfing the net. However, if I go to a download site, I can get freaky speeds of 200 to 250 Kbps as a continuous stream! Well, if its the modem, why should this now fail to work correctly? Why would this cause disconnection problems? Why would email not work? And why would it only operate at a speed slower than dialup when surfing?? And why has my mate who lives 200 metres from us and has the all-new-and-improved Speedtouch modem, in the last two weeks begun to suffer exactly the same problems... ? Yup - it's all rubbish we're being told by them, and from what I can see, and looking at all the comments on this site, it's probably about time that we changed ISP too....
Hmmmm... when you rang blob, who did you speak to to get the MAC number - so-called Customer Service? In terms of wired or wireless - I really don't care what box the darn service is connected to, I just want to get the service I pay £28 for per month!
Don't let them brush you off with excuses when the problem lies with the Orange network. All they will do is buy time until they try and resolve the problem.. which with their incompetence is highly unlikely!
The problem lies with their LLU upgrade which has totally screwed a whole lot of folks nationwide.. you could be waiting months or even years for a decent service.
My advice is to leave and find an ISP that deals in honesty with great support and realibility.. all Three vital components sadly lacking at Orange.
Same here using the old green stingray modem and a Netgear Router.
Call them today and asked for my MAC number...............but they offered a new wirless router.......WHAT all for free........yes was the reply.
Should arrive in 2 days now the funs starts all over again.
The router will be as useless as the stingray and the speedtouch if you have an exchange problem.. I was sent all Three just to buy time when they knew full well the problem wasn't my end.
If you still have the flashing lights then I would think very seruisly about leaving.. else you could be in for a very long wait and avery big phonebill
