Hi there, I have 2 problems (which im guessing may be related)
My landline is practically unusabe for poor quality. i thought this was just where i lived but when i disconect the livebox and connect straight to the master socket the quality improves.
The internet, connection is very stable and never drops off however I get a regular D/L speed of around 56kps, this sometimes fluctuates but always averages around there. i have ran speedtests that say i should be getting 10 times that.
My computer is fine, i get faster speeds on wifi @ work.
I have tried changing channels in config
I have tried wired and wifi (same speed)
I have tried updating firmware / configuration update
Many thanks borednow for your help and quick responses.
i will try the phone test 2mo, and see how that goes
im still a little confused though, my speedtest says i can only recieve 0.5meg should i not be recieving 500kbs not 56kbps. or is that all i get?
A speedtest will give actual throughput speed not an estimate. Throughput speed should be approx. 80 - 84% of the sync or connection speed shown in the stats.
I have noticed that when i plug my phone directly in the master socket the distortion clears. I have spoke to Orange tech, and they suggest changing the adsl filter.
about the broadband they reckon my 0.5meg speed is the fastest stable speed i can have and faster would make it lose stability.
Still seems slow, am i being bullsh*ted or does this sound right?
As you can see from the stats that you posted from the test socket your router should sync at around 6300kbps so if Orange are saying that then there is a problem somewhere between the test socket and the local exchange.
To get Orange to do something about it will need a lot of effort from you.
But my guess is that they have increased the Target SNR to cap you at 0.5meg.
