Ive been getting link down the past few weeks, and restarting the LB seemed to fix it. But now the LB wont connect even after 3 days, i rang Orange yesterday and just about heard him cause the line kept crackling and basically sounding like a spectrum (If anyone remembers them) they did a basic line test for me and he said that i had a fault on the line (First time theve ever found a fault for me, well done Orange ^_^) and that i would recieve a text in 24 hours'ish telling me what the fault is and how i can fix it.
Does anyone have any idea what this noise is? Ive read that it can sometimes be internal wiring which BT will charge you for. But ive never messed with it or anything, and i dont have a test socket.
I should be going to Virgin soon, so i wont even need my phone line so if BT are gunna charge me they can get lost!
Disconnect the Livebox and have just one corded analogue phone plugged in without a microfilter then dial 17070 and select option 2.
If you can hear any sound whatsoever, even the slightest hiss, then it's a voice fault and you should phone BT and report it but do not mention broadband to them.
If you hear absolutely no sound at all on this test then re-plug the Livebox, plug the phone into the microfilter and dial 17070 option 2 again.
If you hear noise now then chances are it's a broadband fault and you should first replace the microfilter, if the noise continues then report the fault to Orange.
I tried doing the quiet line test both with and without the filter. It does still make the crackling noise but not as bad as what it does with the filter plugged in.
I rang Orange again and they say there is no problem at my end and that there engineers are fixing a fault on the line and that the noise i can hear is "broadband signals" trying to be sent/recieved.
So hopefully it will be back up and running soon, id even be happy with 512Kbps

I think that's absolute rubbish.
If there's noise on the line then call BT & state there's a voice issue with noise. DO NOT mention broadband.

If the problem still exists tonight then Orange have told you porkies, other than fibre cable breaks or major equipment failure nothing takes more than 12 hours to repair. Orange are notorious at fobbing customers off with statements that they think sound convincing.
What is your local exchange ?
ADSL signal noise is not crackling, it's more like multi-tone rhythmic buzzing.
If the noise is still there tonight then phone BT as I said earlier.
Earlier i was getting about 62.5dB and an attainable download rate of 600ish
The only problem im now facing is that everytime the landline rings the internet disconnects, even with different filters.
Ill be ringing Orange again soon as the line is not as crackly as it was the other day. At least its working at the minute though, should last me till i move to Virgin as i wont even need to BT line
