Okay, I have 8MB Orange Broadband (only get 2.5MB) so this is a bit weird...
I have been playing a game on my computer for the past 2 years - Counter Strike: Source
In the beggining I use to have good ping on the UK servers(most are in London - I live in Lincolnshire), arround 30 ping I use to have.
I use to connect to servers from Portugal and get arround 50-70 ping.
Now I get 50ping average in the UK and about 100 in Portuguese servers.
The funny thing is, my download speeds are faster now.
For a few days I have been trying to lower my ping (I know how to do this in game but it isnt really that good as I get kicked from servers or admins start moaning) and this is a particular website I found that thought it would work but it didnt.
So after talking about this with some people, someone told me I should open my Orange Livebox ports. I have no idea how to do it and havent been able to find any tutorial on the internet to help me with this.
I'll probably agree with you... and they dont seem to be working with Orange, so I wont be sharing my details, I'll try find a way to do this or just contact Orange. Thanks for replies anyway
From there, type in your telnum or postcode and see if your exchange is Orange LLU Enabled (The LLU list is down the right hand side of the page), if not keep reading on.
If you have not got LLU enabled, then you are 99.99% on a Interleaved broadband connection, this means error checking is enabled on your line and causes pings in games to become MUCH higher than normal.
There are two types of broadband lines (which i know of), Interleaved and Fastpath, you need to ask for Orange to contact BT and get your Broadband Line put onto FastPath, if they have no idea what fastpath is just tell them to turn off Interleaved mode as its the only other option they can switch it too...
LLU not enabled in your area = You are using BT's hardware, so in reality BT are controlling your broadband, thus Orange need to talk to them in order to switch your line over.

I hope this helps you.
wow, that seems pretty good info and advice to me, I'll have a look at the web and see what happens - I'll let you know when I can, thanks a lot buddy!
[Edit] Okay so Orange on my area does not have LLU - So should I contact them tell my problem and they will contact BT? By the way, you know if there will be a charge?
