Hi,
Can any one throw some light on my problem.
Since February 7th I am being disconnected from around 9am and 2-30 I can almost set my clock to the time. I have made many phone calls to Tech support and have been sent around in circles even being told it could be GLOBAL WARMING or CLIMATE CHANGE !!!!!Oh and probably the electric wiring at my home could be shorting out at that particular time. They have done many tests etc and admit there is a fault and others say they cant find any fault but admit they can see when I am not connected to the internet. The @ light on the Livebox flashes fast then slow for about four or five flashes then fast again. The livebox have been replaced and filters changed, but for the past five weeks the same thing happens at the same time every day, so to my way of thinking something must be happening at that time at the exchange every day.
The UK tech support told me today he is requesting a engineer from ALCATEL to look at the problem as they say there is no fault.
Has anyone had the same problem.
Regards
Leighton
Download for free Routerstats from http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/inter.../files.htm and run it for 24 hours or at least from 7am to 7pm. This will monitor what your SNRM is doing at the time of the problem and at the time it recovers.
It sounds like it could be local electrical interference....if you're keen, google "REIN".
Any industrial activity around you....generators or big electic pumps ?

Hi,
Here are the stats
ADSL firmware version : A2pBT009c1.d17d
Connection mode : G.DMT
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 12.3
Attenuation (dB) : 63.5
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 960
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 512 64
Before this problem I was getting downloads of 1 mb but they have put me on 512 to try and keep connection also ADSL 2+
My exchange is CAERPHILLY and I live about 2 miles from there.
There are Farms in the location the nearest about half a mile away but have not had any such problems like this before having been on Broadband for about 6 years, my house is detached and away from all other properties being in a semi rural location.
The farm nearest to me only does plant hire etc so no machinery on site.
What is "REIN" on GOOGLE. and do I leave my PC on to run ROUTESTATS over night??
Many thanks

Several questions :-
What exchange are you on ?
Can you post your router's stats ?

Naughty....you only told half the story....Orange have put you on a 0.5Mb fixed LLU line.
But that's (Connection mode : G.DMT ) not an ADSL2+ connection.
You are too far from the exchange to gain anything from an ADSL2+ connection. If Orange have tried to set you up on ADSL2+ then that's possibly the cause of your problems.
Although it doesn't explain the 9am to 2:30pm discons.
Run Routerstats, yes it does need your computer on so if you're not OK with that then run it from 7am (or as soon as poss after) until at least 3pm to catch the discon.
Could it be a local water company pumping station for sewage ?

Hi,
For the past 2 or 3 years I was on ADSL2+ it is only 5 weeks ago they changed it,up untill then it been reliable with only a few discons sometimes reconnecting on Interleave but it was mainly ADSL2+
There is a water pumping station about 1 and half miles away but its been there for years but no where near my house.I am on septic tank so no sewerage pumps near me.
It is baffling me as to the times of the discons always around 9am and reconnection from noon to 2-30.
The village where I live is quite a quiet place,no industry etc.
The Routerstats is running at present NOISE MARGIN12-3db and speed 512.
thanks and regards

Yes I have Sky but it is not connected to the phone line, could the Sky box effect it if its not connected to phone??
I used the routerstats as you suggested and the graph showed 12-2 all through the night, completley staight line apart from one blip to 10db then back to 12-2. then at 9-17am disconnected again no blips just straight from 12.2 to zero. it stayed off till 14-05 and straight back up to 12-2 db with one quick drop to 2db at 17-30 and straight back up to 12.2db with no disconnection, The graph seems to run smoothly and completly straight with no eratic lines .It seems when I get disconnected its as if switches the signal just shuts off at the exchange. Is there any need to measure upstream noise, thats 30db.

Have you got Sky ?
This may involve a tedious series of problem-solving exercises but it's the only way. If the timings are not convenient then wait until Satruday and Sunday. The problem certainly has all the signs of being REIN.
Disconnect the Sky box completely from mains power....pull the plug out....before 9am.
Also make sure the cable from the BT socket into the router and the ethernet cable from the router to the computer (if it's connected) do not run alongside any mains power cables.
If you have an AM/MW portable radio, tune it into 612KHz and place it near to the router before 9am.
Then get a cup of tea, sit down and watch Routerstats and listen for a noise on the radio at the same time as the SNRM drops.

Well here we go again, round and round in circles.
This is the 7th week with this problem and still no joy from Orange, It is now in the hands of the Managers in the Critical Faults team, the lady I have been speaking to over last two days have been very good and have tried to get their suppliers (ALCATEL) to send an engineer out to check my connections but they flatly refuse and although I have daily discons from 9 am till 2 pm they are now going to close the fault as they say there is nothing more they can do.Even suggesting I go over to BT for my broadband, and Ive been with Freeserve etc Orange /14 years. The have suggested I get BT engineers out to check my lines at my cost£129!!!!
I have phoned BT several times and they say it is up to Orange to send engineer out to solve my problem, Orange agrees with them and blames ALCATEL.I have now arranged for BT to come and do a check on my lines and sockets.I cant believe a company can treat their customers in such an abysmal way. It looks like my accociation with Orange is coming to an end,I dont really want to start another contract with another ip in case I am stuck with the same problem.
I'd be interested to hear any comments or advice on this. Many thanks to Borednow for your valued advice.
leighton.
