Sarlmoor, remember I was stuck on 1 meg for weeks. I do feel for you and the others who are not getting anything done.
I was told 2 weeks for the new DLM, last Friday, it was still 2 weeks, it should have been the end of this week, but until we get the official statement from Orange giving us the exact date, if they do, then we can only speculate.
I was put on a 12 meg profile and after a week, this went all the way back down to 8, 6, 4 before eventually somehow getting another manual profile of 12 meg restored.
I have had 1 week of 12 meg, but since Friday, I have started to lose speed:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 9616 kbps 945 kbps
Line Attenuation 31.8 db 14.6 db
Noise Margin 15.0 db 14.6 db
Yes everyone would love to be on my 9 meg instead of 1 meg, but if I go all the way back down after a week or so, then it is not much comfort to me or others if the line degrades back to what it was before, 1 meg!!!
I am going to do a reboot just before lunch today to see if I can get my speed back to 12 meg.
And of course wait to hear from Orange with this statement they will be putting out!
Router rebooted and back on 12 meg, so at least a reboot every now and then gets my line back to what it should be.
Have asked Orange when the official statement is going to be released.
With a lot of people stuck on 1 meg and the DLM being rewritten, I think it is about time that Orange responded and we were all told exactly what is happening, what will happen and any timescales.
I will admit, I would have a lot more respect for Orange if they DID actually make a statement, and offered 1 or 2 months free broadband for any and all affected.
As it is, compaines are always loathe to admit fault and liability, and I am still not expecting to see any Orange statement. When I see it on the Orange website, I'll believe it!
I'll write their statement for them:
"ORANGE WOULD LIKE TO ANNOUNCE THAT THERE IS NO FAULT WITH THE DLM. IT MUST BE YOUR ADSL FILTERS. OR MAYBE YOUR CAT IS TOO CLOSE TO THE PHONELINE. PLEASE CALL OUR VERY HELPFUL OVERSEAS CALL CENTRES FOR SOME FIRST CLASS SERVICE. IT'S YOUR FAULT, NOT OURS..."
another phone call from david exec office, but still no change from 1 meg, use to get up to 4 meg on the 8 meg package, dropped immediatley to 1meg as soon as 20meg was switched on.
asked about the upgrade to new DLM, but was told because my line will not support the higher speeds 8meg plus, i am not on a DLM on my 20meg package.
they cannot understand why my speed dropped to 1meg, so still in limbo
hmm, if your line rate isn't controlled by DLM and assuming you don't have a fault on the line then they must have a manual cap on your speed wouldn't you think??... i think they do understand, they just can't tell you
I hope this isn't true because I will be in the same situation as my line cannot support over 8Mb also...

Apparently when I was with Orange, they told me my line could only support 4 mb ?! - this was after being on about 6.5 meg for about 2 years
Anyways, to cut a long story short, I'm on 02 now and getting over 17 meg. So Orange, if you're gonna lie, do it well
If you were on normal "up to 8meg" LLU then it would show :-

G.DMT or G.992.1
So something ain't quite right
borednow, considering the above, what do you make of this??
Connection mode : ADSL2+
Type : Fast
Noise margin (dB) : 16.7
Attenuation (dB) : 31.5
Attainable download rate (kbps) : 11415
ADSL status : Connected [0]
Downstream Upstream
Rate (kbps) 8061 605
on a seperate note, orange exec office have come through very well for me and i appreciate what they've done. it shouldnt have taken this though but once they got involved i did get the outcome i wanted.
makes me think they really are stumped with the DLM issue, or these guys would get something done for you if they could.

I'd say you were on a capped ADSL2+ connection.
This is similar to o2 (now Sky)'s Standard LLU package except o2 (now Sky) don't cap by raising the SNRM......not sure how they do it actually.
If the cap is removed (i.e. the Target SNR was set at 6dB) your router should sync at around 11500kbps ........but the DLM would get in the way and you'd sync at 1meg

Why is internet in UK so crap. Have u seen speedtest global results, UK is at number 40 for download spead whilst Eastern Europeans countries are ranked at 4,5,6 ect 0.0
Hold on.......I agree that you should receive what you pay for.
If dabel's paying for up to 8meg then that's OK.
If you look at o2 (now Sky)'s packages then there's up to 8meg Standard; up to 20meg Premium and up to 20meg Pro.....all at different prices.
You need to understand that "up to 20meg" means that.....the further you are away from the exchange the less likely you are to get 20meg....in fact you will not get 20meg if your attenuation is >15dB approx.
After my frankly pointless call on Saturday from fault escalations in the UK (in which they told me to move my router away from my monitor, FFS!), and no improvement in my capped speed, I am due another callback from them today.
As they told me on Saturday, if my speed has not improved by today, they will introduce a manual profile on my line. I'll keep you posted as and when this happens, as well as if I DO actually get a speed increase from it, so maybe others here affected can demand the same thing.
Knowing my luck, I'll be back to a reasonable speed for 2 days before the DLM caps me to 1MEG again...
Also considering other providers as I have little faith in Orange. Looking at my local exchange, the LLU providers are: AOL, o2 (now Sky), C&W/Bulldog, Sky, Talk Talk, Tiscali, Virgin and BT.
BT and o2 (now Sky) possible as they have UK call centres.
Anybody got any advice which are worth considering, or which have terrible customer service?

@Sarlmoor
If o2 (now Sky) have free capacity in your local exchange then they're definitely the ones to go with. Their LLU service is highly recommended and they have UK , freephone support.

May have been a typo but BT are not "LLU" as such. IF you mean WBC up to 20meg then that still has the IP Profile-style DLM (similar to Orange's) operating 24/7.....and their CS is in India not UK.
Looking at that list there are only 3 realistically to choose from : o2 (now Sky), Sky and Virgin.....notsure about Virgin but AFAIK o2 (now Sky) is the only UK CS...and it's freefone.
Thanks to Borednow and TinyTim for the information; looks like I'll be off o2 (now Sky) in the next couple of weeks, then. According to o2 (now Sky), I can only get up to 8MEG, but after 2 months of a 1MEG cap, that will be like lightning!
@Yakleback - I assume a manual profile will kick in quickly, so will be interesting to see what I get in the next few days. If anything.
Of course, I wonder if I am being a fool in waitinf for this 'magical' DLM fix which might not appear until the summer. I can harass Orange into giving me free broadbvand for that time, but I want speed, not free 1MEG capped service!
I don't consider o2 (now Sky) and moving out of choice. I hate Sean Bean, the voice of o2 (now Sky)...
