I know I am probably asking for the moon on a stick but..
i've got the basic Orange BB service but get about 6.5 meg dwnload and a constant 500k upload rate when tested through Thinkbroadband.com
i'm using the Siemens wireless router provided by Orange and using the Xbox genuine wirelss adaptor.
The problem is that I get randomly signed out of Xbox live (usually as I'm about to whup some Yankee fool on COD8) and I'm not sure why. i have noticed that the chatter from other players is generally of poor quality (probably just as well)
Sorry to read of your connection problems during your foreign diplomacy sessions!
I would like to arrange for someone to look into this for you, to see if there is something we need to address. If you can contact me at customer.services@orange.co.uk, I will arrange this for you. Please include your landline/account number and best contact number and also add 'Jonathan Orange Response' so the mail can be picked up quickly.
I have sent a reply to "Orange Response Team" and been given a case number but have as yet not received any contact other than that (an automated response). I will update as and when.
He has suggested retesting with an standard cabled connection-reasonable idea.
He will call me back in a couple of days to see if the connection still keeps dropping. they can see no drop off on the DSL.
Chris from Orange called last night. I have tried a direct connection to the Siemens router via a 10m patch lead! It still dropped me out of Xbox live after 45mins. So conclusion is that its not a wireless issue. We then set up the xbox network connection to use a fixed IP as aposed to automatic, with the primary and secondary dns settings too. Have only used the console for two hours so far but not a single drop out yet. will keep you posted and if anybody wants these settings drop me a line as it may be of use to you.
P.S.
Chris has been real helpful and has always called back whenever he's said he will.
Ok, I have tried the connection for a few days now on COD8- strictly for research purposes of course. It is still signing me out of Xbox live at random times! Not sure what's the next stage. Chris from Orange calling me back at the weekend. The problem is that Orange is seeing no break in BB service when checking the log-in history? If anybody else has had or is having the same problem I would be grateful for their feedback.
this is probley not what you want to hear but get a new router the piece of crap they send you that is causing the problems. it used to do it to me all the time and always at the most inconvinient times i tried everything forwarding ports wired wireless etc then i got a new router and its not happend since
Not as bad as it sounds as we have a load of Netgear and Draytek routers at work.
Orange Chris is calling me back this weekend and he will probably suggest sending me a replacement which I guess would at least mean I will still be "supportable."
I think I may borrow a router from work in the meantime and retest.
well ive got a old netgear and a belkin which i have tried and both of them work fine with XBL i use the belkin dailiy as the wirless does not work on the netgear but both work fine wired for XBL and the belkin has no problems wirless either.
its defanitly there router though, i dont know why it wont even work properly with all the ports forwarded but it just seems not to like XBL
had the same issue of being signed out of COD, even worse with Worms 2.
I think is due to a low ping caused statefull packet inspection on the Gigaset.
Horrible solution for me was turning packet inspection off.
NOT Recomended - probably better as suggested to get another ADSL modem
as recommended on MS's xbox website e.g.
http://support.xbox.com/suppor...px#routers
* Logon -> Settings -> Internet -> Firewall -> Attack Detection
* Change 'Level' to 'Custom'
* Stateful packet inspection: Off
this compromises security for throughput speed.[/url]
I have tried a new wirelss router - a Netgear DG834 PN and...
success! No more signing me out after hours online! Chris from Orange called and I informed him of the result and he has ordered me a replacement router (the usual Siemens jobby) I installed it last night and so far so good, a couple of hours trouble free bashing of COD8!
Will update if there is any change or even if not!
Ok, New router installed. Same old problem! Keeps signing me out of Xbox live randomly. I think it must be a "feature" of the Siemens Gigaset router. Will probably just get my own router and not bother with the Orange support, who will only be able to supply me with the same as a replacement as I guess there is no alternative.
