I'm going to add a surprisingly optimistic angle to events, as well as some hopefully helpful advice for anybody else in the same position.
I changed my account on the 6th Jan, and got caught in the DLM downgrade; and have been down from a 5MEG speed to 1MEG and below for the last 7 weeks.
I'm sure you all know the frustration I have had with the overseas call centre, line tests and fob offs. The last straw was last night. I called AGAIN for a status update, and the second-line tech actually told me it was an INTERNAL wiring fault, and there was nothing they could do. I was disgusted at this, and demanded a callback that evening from somebody who could help me, or give me an update. No callback reached me.
I have literally just got off the phone from Orange, and my advice is, thus far, give the matter 6 weeks, and then ASK FOR YOUR MAC CODE! I got transferred to a lovely woman called Grace in the UK, who was very apologetic and happy to give me the MAC code if I wanted it. I was expecting to get refused, and have to contact the ISPA.
On princlpe with this service, which was far better than I was expecting, I have given them another working week to resolve the issue, or reassure me the repair at my local exchange (Exeter) is being fixed. If nothing by Monday 1st March, I will be leaving Orange.
They also gave me a free month's broadband to cover the 'downtime'.
I hope I am able to pass on some more information about this when I get it. Hope this is some help to somebody.
Seems that demanding the MAC code is one way to move things along!
I take it by this they mean problems with your own wiring inside your house?
If so I was given that same excuse!
Post your stats on here and if you can use DMT or Router Stats and look at the bit profile to see if any gaps are missing. These will be radio freq that indicate noise on your line.
In my case, the noise was external and nothing to do with my wiring!!!
And of course ADSL2+ can function normally with these gaps!
I had to get a manual profile of 12 meg put back on my line for the 2nd time. I was on 1 meg for 6 weeks!
By the way Tim, Sky bb customers are having the same trouble now. A lot of customers have seen their speeds 1/2 due to Sky using the DLM to re-assess their lines. Cue lots of phone calls to Sky to try and get the line back up. A hassle I could do without if I do change!!!

In my instance DLM does seem to work OK now. After playing with a forced 6dB profile I lost 300kbps on my upload. That was a week ago. Last night that speed is back , now at 1300kbps. No sign within my router of a re-sync though - the logs show nothing.
BBK , better the devil you know maybe especially if 0range can correct DLM.!
Mine is at 1024 BUT I cannot get any higher than 0.8.
Plus I have noticed that the delay on the upload is at 15ms which is too high.
I have asked Orange to put my path to fast instead of interleaved and get these delays down.

I'm not the most tech-savvy with broadband; what stats do you want me to grab from the Netgear? Let me know and I'll slap them up here.

Also what about Router stats. Do you get the full telnet options/tabs?
My DGN3500 is sat in its box at the moment!!!! A nice 1Gb Lan is only running at 100Mbs as my line does not like the new router. Cannot get DMT to work at all and Router Stats very limited data.
Delved into telnet and got the commands that can be used and there are loads missing, not even an adsl info expand !!!!!!!
I may sit my new router on the line all day tomorrow and leave it and see what happens. If it could stick at 12 meg, 1 meg upload, I would be happy but after Friday when it looks like the DLM downgraded the line to 10 meg, I am not confident at all. It badly needs a firmware upgrade so I can at least see some proper stats plus I was hoping that I might see an increase in my speeds with a new router. But not to be at the moment!
I reckon if Orange put my speed to a 13.5 meg profile, I would get better bits per tone from my speedtouch 585. If only I could get the DGN3500 to show all these stats!
hi guys, can i ask what your noise margin was when you were stuck on the one meg profile for weeks? did Orange blame your maximum stable rate for the reason to why your profiles were not increasing? i know its been a while since those days for you but it would help in me trying to understand my position.
I was told the other week that anyone having problems with the DLM regrading them down to 1 meg would be able to ask for a manual profile of the max their line could handle. If you post your full stats, we should be able to tell you what that should be, line att needed.
So the other week they put in for a manual profile and I got 12 meg.
Then as you can see from this thread, I was suddenly taken down to 8 meg and 6 meg by the DLM! Orange blamed noise on my line, blamed my internal wiring!!! This was untrue. So I proved this was external noise by plugging my router into the test socket. However by doing this, the DLM did not like the router being powered off and on, so downgraded me further.
So when I asked for a manual profile, which I was told was their interim solution until they fixed the DLM, I was informed that my manual profile was a one off!!! However after pressure from myself and the exec office to the tech team, they eventually relented and I got my 12 meg back.
And I was told that the DLM would be ready in 2 weeks time with an upgrade to the software to ensure no downgrades when you switched your router off. Whether this will work out or not, I guess we will see in 2 weeks time.
However I was told that they would take the DLM off my line and I would remain on 12 meg until the new DLM was ready. Then it would go back on my line.
However everyone gets told different things by Orange depending on who you speak to. Next week we may all be told a different story.
At the end of the day, orange CAN put in a manual profile to your line, so if you are a slow speed due to the DLM, kick up a fuss and DEMAND a manual profile, they have done it twice for me and I see no reason why other customers should suffer on slow speeds because of their faulty DLM.
So get in touch with the executive office, explain my case to them. Tell them that the exec office team in Darlington are in touch with someone in Orange called Matthew and he can instigate the manual profile procedure.
