He said that whats BT is telling them even though they too can see 13.5Meg.
Router says:
Line mode: G.992.5 (ADSL2+)
Maximum line rate: 13328 kbps (downstream) / 883 kbps (upstream)
Noise margin: 11 dB (downstream) / 14 dB (upstream)
Line attenuation: 28 dB (downstream) / 13 dB (upstream)
Output power: 22 dBm (downstream) / 12 dBm (upstream)
I've been away for a couple of weeks and was surprised (not) that this thread was still growing
vlad, your problem seems to be the downstream SNRM at 11dB and the Output Power of 22dB. These two indicate a possible exchange or router problem.
Also why they use the excuse of "that's what BT is telling us" is beyond me. They're not using BT equipment apart from the phone lines so BT data has no relevance when LLU equipment is installed. Your 28dB attenuation will give a sync of approx. 16500kbps if all conditions are good.
Agreed, a bit of a muppet to even mention BT. I think they just say whatever they can think of. If it was still BT connnected not LLU I think it would be almost a relevent comment.
As far as router problem goes it would have to be an internal fault on the ethernet output of the router but that would not explain the sloth on one of the 2 laptops which are both wireless and one of them getting 11 meg.
I shall try differnt software for firewall and the like I think on the slower one - see what that does.
Doesn't look like Orange have put in a manual profile of 13.5 meg at all.
And as for the DLM, why has it not increased my speed over the weekend?
BBK after talking to two people from Fault Management I'm told with the new version of DLM it isn't possible to issue a manual profile setting anymore, also that it can actually take up to 7 days before the DLM will start ramping up your speed.
After finding out what I pm'd you about at the weekend, I did a bit of thinking & rang Orange again to bluntly asked the questions about my suspicions .. it would look like this is what has happened in my case
... but of course I couldn't possibly say if it has affected others, who are having the same sort of problems, which may also have started at around the same time....
Orange rolled out a new version of DLM to all BT exchanges on 20/01/10. Then because I had been told by Orange that the 10 day sync process was over I didn't leave my router on overnight. DLM is checking lines between 22:30 - 04:30 (but mainly between 00:00 - 01:30), therefore when the router is off it see's it as a line fault and will drop your speed.
I told Fault Management to start another sync process on Friday (as I thought 60+ speedtest results, all at diffrent times of the day, covering the entire length of my problem was enough evidence), but as they have had to start this and I have already been set to 1mbps then it has to "build up" .. I'm told they can't set a "start profile" as they would when I switched packages.
It would seem that even the Orange Fault Management team got "caught off guard" with the DLM reading switched off routers as line faults.
So I'm waiting for the 10 days of sync to complete at the moment & then it will be role on the 05/03/10 ... or in other words 30 days since my detrimental service began ... then my next move.
I had a manual profile of 12 meg implemented on the 4th Feb!! So what you were told was different to me!
Also I was told last Fri, that Orange were going to put in another 12 meg profile for me, which has not happened yet!
I was also told that I was the first person Orange were manually putting in a profile and if it worked (which it did and it lasted 8 days), then anyone else stuck on 1 meg, 2 meg etc, could now have their profile manually adjusted. This would sort out for the time being, the problems with the DLM.
As for waiting for the DLM, well I had my router swicted on for a month before it decided to go from 1 meg to 2 meg, then 2 days later up to 4 meg where it stayed despite the DLM resynching my router every couple of days. My resynchs have been at 8:30 in the morning, 2:15 in the afternoon and 9:30 in the morning. My router has been left on and I saw only 2 changes where the DLM upped from 1 meg to 2meg then up to 4 meg.
Last Friday the DLM took me down from 12 meg to 8 meg and then quickly followed it up with a further downgrade to 6 meg where I have stayed. This despite my router being on! So why has it not upped me over the weekend?
If Orange are now saying that the have modded the DLM and rolled it out and they are now leaving it to the DLM to sort peoples lines out, then we could be in for a very long wait! The DLM should inspect the line, work out the max speed and set the line at that speed, then monitor it. It should also be clever enough to know if the router is on or off, some people turn all their electrical equipment off before going to bed, which is a sensible thing to do, but not in the case of Orange' DLM! Howver funny how when my router has been on for months, the DLM only upped it on only two occasions!
If you are on 1 meg and have been told to wait 10 days for you to get back up to your max, then good luck. No doubt I will be told the same, oh wait 10 days and your speed will be back at 12 meg. Now where have I heard that before!?!?!?

Were you monitoring the SNRM with Routerstats ?
If so what data was returned ?
If your line is producing occasional noise spikes then that's why the sync reduced....to stabilise the connection.....if as I suspect, the Orange DLM is a copy (allbeit a worse-peforming one) of the BTw one.
yes I have been monitoring my line with router stats.
For the 8 days I was on 12 meg, my snrm was 10 or 10.5 and nothing else. No drops at all, a nice steady value for all those 8 days Then on Friday it went to 15.5 to 16 and has stayed there ever since.
I cannot see how I can have any noise on my line when I am connected up in the best possible manner. Router stats confirm that my line is fine, nice steady values throughout.

Background noise may not show up in a router's stats and remember that 15.8dB is Noise Margin i.e. the relationship between the actual SNR to run at a given speed and the Target SNR.
Background noise is normally external of your property and out of your control eg a thunderstorm or a spike of electrical noise (also known as REIN - Repetitive Electrical Impulse Noise).
So if there is noise on my line externally, who is responsible for it?
BT? Or Orange? I have my phone with BT.
Would Orange ask BT to come out to check the line between the exchange and my house? Who would pay for it?
You.....unless you check literally everything to eliminate any problems whatsoever on your side of the NTE5.
Between 10am and 12pm tomorrow, disconnect the router for 5 minutes then plug into the test socket (I can't remember if you have an NTE5 or if you've done this already but do it again anyway) and leave it connected for at least 24 hours....preferably longer......like days.
There is obviously something that is affecting the way the Orange DLM is seeing your connection and I'm not convinced the problem is solely the DLM software....it might not be helping but I'm sure there's something else wrong. And it's probably either in the exchange or in cabling somewhere between the exchange and the back of your NTE5.
dont know if this helps you BBK but i was being told the same thing from Orange, that my line was only capable of whatever due to noise on the line. to cut a long story short BT have just this minute been out to fix a fault after i did a line check with BT on my phone. my router stats have gone from this...
Status: Cable connected
Line mode: G.992.3 (ADSL2)
Maximum line rate: 1019 kbps (downstream) / 285 kbps (upstream)
Noise margin: 19 dB (downstream) / 19 dB (upstream)
Line attenuation: 44 dB (downstream) / 40 dB (upstream)
Output power: 16 dBm (downstream) / 11 dBm (upstream)
to this...
ADSL Line
Status: Cable connected

Maximum line rate: 1019 kbps (downstream) / 285 kbps (upstream)
Noise margin: 31 dB (downstream) / 11 dB (upstream)
Line attenuation: 29 dB (downstream) / 16 dB (upstream)
Output power: 17 dBm (downstream) / 7 dBm (upstream)
as you can see there is a huge difference. im not saying this would definitely apply to you but until you rule out a problem with your line with BT regarding noise you cannot continue to solely blame Orange.
im now in the waiting game of my line to be reanalysed by DLM. i asked Orange for a regrade of my line but they said they couldnt until my maximum stable rate went up based on the stats my router would start to show at their end. by that time they said my profile may be moving up already from the disgusting 1 meg profile it is now.
all this after an escalations 'manager' told me i had two choices to go forward. i could either stay on the 1 meg profile or i could leave. and when i didnt answer that question he put the phone down on me.... what he failed to mention is there is 3rd choice. get BT to look at faults on your line.
good luck. and will let you know if dlm takes its course...
