Hello
we had a power surge and it's killed my Livebox (and a couple of other things!) dead and I'm currently using a Hitachi router.
{ I phoned Orange and the typical moronic Indian you get refused to send me a new Livebox, he said he had to send me a new power adapter, even though I told them it was pointless. He sent it anyway, now I have to post the old one back. :-Z }
Thing is: Wireless actually works properly with my old Hitachi modem, but of course, no VOIP is possible, Orange locked all that into their Liveboxes and no-one even knows the Orange VOIP SIP address.
Wireless never worked properly on my Livebox. No matter what I did (I've read the threads here) I couldn't connect any laptop with Windows Vista or 7 or my Wifi printer to my Network. The Windows 7 Wifi diagnostic didn't say my Network was compatible or incompatible - merely listed it as blank and also reported several unknown errors.
But anyway, if I ask for a NEW Livebox, 2 questions:
1 Will it be an updated model? The one I've got is 3 years old - would they just send me another one that's exactly like the old one? Might Wireless work on the model? I've heard there's these "Livebox minis" now?
2 Will I be charged? (Probably not, since I spend £35 a month on Orange, not under contract any more though)
As you are not under contract you have some bargaining power here, threaten to leave and they will do anything to please. Be polite but straight to the point, your livebox is faulty and you require a new one. I would expect that you are sent their latest livebox model, whatever that may be.
When I told them the Livebox was completely dead they said they'd send a new one in a few days, no charge. They want the old one posted back to them in a reply-paid bag that comes with the new one, although I'm sure they'll just chuck that away when it gets there!
I asked if they'd got a different model to the old one since Wireless never worked, but the Livebox Mini is no longer being sent out to clients (because of problems they say) and the Siemens one has no VOIP channel at all.
So we'll see if the new Livebox is any better than the one I've had for the past Three years...
This turned out all right because when I told them the Livebox was dead they sent me another at no charge and it works OK, I can get my laptop on my Wifi network now, although not my wireless printer. It's definitely different to my old one, just small differences.
When I complained about Wifi not working ages ago they refused to replace the Livebox as they just blamed the laptop for the problem. But once it went completely they had no choice.
Which means that if you want a new Livebox, throw the old one out of a window and then there's no argument about it! You will have to post it back to them in the (reply-paid) return bag though!
