The only way they can get your speed back up in that timescale is for the executive office to ask their contact in the tech team to put in a manual profile for you. The DLM on its own will no way get your line speed back, certainly not in that time, let alone ever!
The manual profile I have been on is very sticky, emails pause for around 10 seconds befor they come through, web pages will stick before fully loading.
The DLM on my line has resynced my router a few times since the manual profile and each time, it has failed to up my speed, which it should be doing to around 13+meg. My SNRM is still on 10.5 and I was told Orange like to have this on 6, so there is still room for improvement but I think the DLM is failing to look at the data collected properly.
Also on an evening, my download speeds can vary from 0.8 meg to 10meg, it is so erratic. Upload has never got higher than 0.75 meg but this should be a constant 1 meg upload, no reason why it cannot be. Pings are poor on the evening. It is as if I were on a non LLU profile come evening time. I am getting throttled.
Tim has a nice constant upload/download and the DLM managed to get his line fixed and has upped speeds correctly. I think I am stuck on this profile because the DLM does not work on my line.
Good luck, but unless you can contact someone called Matthew who is the exec office contact who managed to sort out my profile, then you will be stuck with those slow speeds for a very long time.

Depends how you're testing this. Last night most of the UK servers for Speedtest.net were giving me less than 1meg. I guess they were being overloaded by speed tests.
well ive had a bit of progress not to my speed though thats still a solid 1meg. but i did get a call from the exec office yesterday who promised to follow up for me and the guy i was dealing with in esculations also called me yesterday and advised me if nothing has happend by 4pm 2day when he calls me again then he will req to manualy set my profile.
so far since i told esculation what i thought of them and made a manager take charge of my acc they have been doing everything they said they would and everytime they say they will call me they do call me so fingers crossed when he calls me 2day we may have some progress
After a week of nice fast 12 meg speeds, albeit a bit sticky and 1 meg upload, my router has just resynced and now I am on an 8 meg upload, 3/4 meg upload!!
After waiting all these weeks, looks like the DLM is back to its usual tricks!!
I have had this 12 meg for 1 week without any problem!!!
Router just resynched again. 8meg profile, now everytime it syncs I dread checking my speed, because it has a strong chance of going all the way back to 1 meg again. It did it before, it could do it again.
After Orange set my 12 meg profile on my line, there is no need to have the DLM sticking its nose in. It should just leave me alone.
I've emailed the exec office asking them to get in touch with the team who put me on the 12 meg manual profile and get my line speed back up manually.
No doubt they have many of these to do!!!!!!!!!!!!
BBK, I'm sure it won't be that difficult to put your speed back up to what it should be. Presumably they've got records of all the problems you've been going through.
Orange will be putting in a manual profile onto my line for 12 meg.
However why has the DLM left me alone for 8 days and then today it decided to eat away at my bandwith?!?!
very soon I will be back where I started. 1 meg!!!
Orange say there is noise on my line, however my router is connected directly into the master socket via an ADSL filter plate. Orange say the DLM is doing its job!!! How can it be, 12 meg for 8 days with no resyncs and then today!!! The DLM goes mad!!!!
Just been on to Orange as my speed now steady at 4.5meg but account page and router say 13.5 meg. So I rang up to get my missing 9meg!
And I've had my router on for over a month now (doesn't help the greenhouse effect!). Oh and they have confirmed "leave the little begger on all the time or you'll soon be down to 1 meg".
Now here's the surprise: 4.5 meg on my xp SP2 ethernet connected pc; 4.5 meg on my xp SP2 AST wireless laptop but 11.5 meg on my vista tosheba wireless laptop!!!! what ---- could xp have been screwing up my speed all along. Cripes I feel awful! Are ther some xp settings that need tweaking?
I would check your network cards vlad.
I've got a vista laptop, vista pc and an xp machine, ps3 and they all report 6 meg profile.
I'm still stuck on 6 meg, so much for the manual profile of 12 meg.
Set up my new router, however with it being a new netgear product, DGN3500, DMT does not work, or I can't get it to work and router stats appears to work but not all features.
Stats that I am getting from this new router are:
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 6142 kbps 830 kbps
Line Attenuation 31.8 db 19.3 db
Noise Margin 15.1 db 19.3 db
Cannot see where you get your potential max sync yet nor how many FEC errors etc but I will see if I can find that out later.
Apart from that I am on the downward slope now after reaching the peaks of Orange broadband for a week.
thanks for the suggestions tt and bbk. Sorry to hear your speed and DLM are still messing you about BBK. Even if they manually intervene I'm sure DLM will keep managing your connection. Speaking to escallation team last night the lad said my max was 6.5 even though my router says 13.5. He said that whats BT is telling them even though they too can see 13.5Meg. I did suggest they were traffic shaping but he would not have any of that. (we know LLU is really so ISP can manage their bandwidth don't we) DLM is certainly not really providing the solution to Orange customers.
I've still got my Linksys 4 port WAG router but I daren't put that back on the system: might blow a fuse in Orange's system!! I think it is what originally caused problems before the o Siemens router arrived.
I'm on the xp laptop at moment. I must admitin all this post I've never really got the "synching speed" definition (doh). so just done a speedtest onto the Birmingham server and got
5.17 down; 0.75 up and a ping of 56 msec.(from 50 miles away) Still cant see how to pastes the box in!
Router says:
ADSL Line
Status: Cable connected
Line mode: G.992.5 (ADSL2+)
Maximum line rate: 13328 kbps (downstream) / 883 kbps (upstream)
Noise margin: 11 dB (downstream) / 14 dB (upstream)
Line attenuation: 28 dB (downstream) / 13 dB (upstream)
Output power: 22 dBm (downstream) / 12 dBm (upstream)
on wireless at moment and hovering cursor over network icon in status bar gives
54Mbs with excellent signal strength.
using firefox (although don't see difference with IE); zonealarm and AVG. Going to try turning these of as the VISTA machine getting 11 Meg just relies on microsoft firewall and virus control.
the network adapter in the slow laptop is a ralink technologies 802.11b/g adapter. The xp desktop is ethernet connected and that shows 100 Mbps rate to the router possible.
Maybe I need to tweak RWIN up a bit!
Here's to the growing longest post ever - it's almost as long as the notes Orange have onmy account, but having found out this latest issue moving to another ISP ain't going to do anything as it appears my bottleneck is now the pc and laptop.
So my line from the master socket is the best it can be. My router connects directly to the master socket. I have also tested the router into the test socket behind the plate with and the possible max sync speeds are the same. Therefore eliminating any problems with any wiring in my house.
I was on 12.25 meg all last week and my router did not drop the line at all. The only thing I was getting was a high no of FEC errors but after researching on the web, this was not a worry. I was therefore on interleaving, I did ask for a fast connection for a better ping but that never happened.
The routers I have to work with my broadband are as follows:
Speedtouch 585v6
orange siemans router
orange live box
netgear GDN3500
The routers report that my line is capable of between 14 and 14.5 meg possible speed. Therefore around 13.5 meg should be handled without any problem. Even my Orange account pages stated that you have tested my line and 13.5 megs speeds are attainable.
There was no reason at all for my speed to be dropped to 8 meg yesterday, then 6 meg shortly afterwards. I was told by the Orange exec office that there is noise on my line, this I dispute, my line could not be better at all. Straight into the master socket, nothing else on the circuit at all.
I was then told that I would be put on a 12 meg profile, however this has not happened. I assume that it was the DLM that dropped the line from 8 meg to 6 meg and this 6 meg was not manually adjusted. Therefore could you please confirm that you did indeed put in a 12 meg profile manually and could you also check whether this has been implemented, did it fail? Could you try again please.
Also with regards to the DLM, a lot of people don't like it at all. It does not do its job properly. From what i have read on here, it cannot tell the difference if a router is powered down or not.
What it should do is test the line, find the best max speed, put the user on this and check for resyncs over a certain no of hours, work out if the router is off or on, etc etc. Only then when it is 100% sure that the router cannot handle the speed, should it drop the speed. I reckon that the DLM needs a total rewrite and at the moment is not working how it should.
My line was stuck on 1 meg for weeks, why did the DLM not up it?
Was it stuck?
Then after several weeks, it upped me to 2 meg, why this wait? What suddenly caused the DLM to up my line, why not the week before, why not the month before, nothing had changed on my line.
Then why did it get to 4 meg and stick on that profile? Why not move it up, the line test indicated a lot higher yet the DLM refused to budge.
When you put in my manual profile of 12 meg, why did the DLM not bring my line speed down straight away, did it get put to sleep for a few days?
Because that can be on the only reason, because after 8 days it reared its ugly head and put me down to 8 meg, then 6 meg, WHY??? There was no reason!
I am more than happy for an Orange tech guy who knows his stuff visit my house and check that my router, connection, faceplate are the best a customer can have them, they are connected up in the best manner possible, there can be no noise on my line internally in my house. I cannot improve my set up at all!!!
So please put me back on a 12 meg, if not a 13.5 meg profile, kick the DLM into touch, until it is sorted and let me enjoy the speeds that I should be getting on my line.
