hi i have just joined Orange broadband 8mb, i live a mile from the exchange and can only get 2.3mb download speed and 235.1kbit upload speed.
i checked samknows.com and it said my exchange was not configured for LLU i then contacted Orange tech support and he said i have been on LLU all the time...
I'll assume it's the livebox as you've only just joined. If you go into the configure livebox link, click the link on the page, username and password are by default both "admin", go into system information. There should be the upload and download connection speeds listed.
Was that the download speed or attainable download speed?
If it's the download then you're on 8meg and there's a bunch of things that can effect the speed. The items connected to the line, anything unfiltered, extensions...
it said attainable 10 meg ,download speed 8 meg, i have nothing else connected to the phone line as i only use it for the number so the livebox is connected on its own they checked the line when i signed up and they said yeas very good line that and i said it should be i'm only 3/4 of a mile from the exchange.
i am gettting between 2.7 meg and 1.7 meg dependant on different times
Alan
i mean i shouldnt be moaning i get it for nothing through my mobile contract, but why say 8 meg if you cant get 8 meg..

You poor sod.
Count yourself lucky you've got anything, I live 300 meters from the exchange and get 0Mbs.
Orange 'help' lines are full of lies, it seems to be geared to p**s you off to the point you call them back again and again (nice little earner).
I only have 2 recommendations regarding Orange Broadband
1) don't believe a word they tell you
2) get out as soon as you can
thanks for that spiney, thing is im getting it for free, so at the moment i use it as well as my NTL i was going to save the cost of the ntl broadband, but seeing i now dont trust Orange CS i will keep the broadband running, and as i use 3 pc's wirelessly i just split the broadband up so i am getting faster speeds than just my NTL
I do think your right though its a good way to offer free broadband ie:
Roll Up Roll Up Roll Up, get your free 8 meg broadband here!
ring up Orange CS 20 minutes per day to pay for the 2.3 meg portion of it
roll up roll up....
B*llocks i can see Orange giving it up anyway if it doesnt work out, wonder what will happen to all the liveboxes then.....
Just a fancy word for congestion.... Imagine it as a peak hour traffic on a city road.... once the peak hour is over, you can zoom on the same road. So does the government build roads where you can zoom even at peak hours? No!! So also, ISP's do not build extra capacity just for those few hours (unless the problem becomes severe). Earlier, distance from the exchange mattered. Now, with new tech., this is not one of the main reasons....
